US Senator Bernie Sanders today announced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act. It proposes that all AI development in the United States will be paused. AI that currently matches or exceeds human cognitive performance will be banned. Violators will face 20 years in prison.

Sanders calls out labs for breaking their own 2023 pause pledges now that AI has hit the "critical threshold" they promised to stop at, and demands they hit the pause button.
