Utah's athletic director reminds the referee why they fired him, a breakdown

I watched @TMatich describe what he saw today. In paraphrase, BYU WR JoJo Phillips faked inside, the Ute defenses bit it, and JoJo made an outside move to fly. He beat him so the defender grabbed his jersey to keep in step. So Retzlaff was looking and in a separate statement said he was looking at JoJo but saw he was jammed so move his attention elsewhere but by then was sacked. Mattich’s believes JoJo had a clear open path that would likely result in a TD, so the hold saved giving up a TD. I watched again with Trevor’s eyes, and I have to say he is right. The Ute bit on the double move and was burned and he knew. Terry McAulay (former NFL ref and Current “On Air Rules Expert” on one of the network said the following… “It’s a foul. It’s always been a foul, and it will always be a foul regardless of game, time, score, or situation. The embarrassing and shameless on-field actions and press conference rant of the Utah AD should result in severe consequences. His behavior was despicable.”

The right call. No freebies just because it's 4th down 😂

It's that first "touch" on the shoulder. He grabs his arm sleeve and yanks him off balance. That's the hold. It's a good call. Not sure what the issue is.

I'd be irrationally upset if I was a Utah fan as well, but if I was rational, I'd also have to be upset the refs gave Utah a phantom facemask first down which led to their own touchdown drive earlier.

The real issue with Utah this game was not one play. It was all of their points coming in one Quarter, and not being able to stop BYU after this play when it got them to the 19 yard line and they still had to go 65 yards. But Utah fans want to cope on one call 😂

After watching this, I feel like the Big 12 could fine Harlan another $40,000 for being on the field and for what he said to the ref.

“This is why WE fired you.” Who’s “we?” The PAC-12 that Utah had a huge hand in self-torpedoing? Dude is the king clown.
