I stop myself when I start to tree hug and rethink my position in life.

That is what must be done

When I try tree hug style, I somehow involve shoulders too which I hate

I was taught to have slight bend in elbows at start and to squeeze elbows together (straighten arms) as you get to end. Is that wrong?

Profilbild von Dean Turner
Dean Turnervor 1 Tag

Keeping arms fixed throughout is preferred Movement at the elbow (flexion and extension) is not training your pecs

If you can’t maintain proper form you are using too much weight. He’s ego lifting.

Proper form makes all the difference. Control the movement, keep tension on the chest, and don’t let the weight take over the rep.

So I am not the only one who pushes with closed fist. Will show this video to my gym buddies. 😄

I usually do flat palms when using it, but same form as you otherwise.

I’m definitely more video 1. Will make adjustments moving forward. Thanks

The seat can be a little lower in video 2, shoulders are a bit higher than the wrists. This will result in more pressure on shoulders than chest.

Where / how did you learn this?

Yo Dean, can you do a video or series on different lifts strictly for cable machines? Thanks again for all the knowledge you provide!

Profilbild von Dean Turner

I will have every cable based exercise video you can dream up on my app set to release this year You’ll be able to access them for free

If you're really going to failure, the first reps will look like video 2, but the last one or two inevitably will get a bit butchered.

I don’t believe so

Have you made a post on keeping a constant 90 degree arm angle? It minimises bicep involvement greatly, feels way better on the elbows for me.

Profilbild von Dean Turner
Dean Turnervor 1 Tag

You mean 90° as in bent?

Profilbild von soham.
soham.vor 1 Tag

Torque demand for the biceps is reduced to basically zero because the line of force is through your lower arm

Profilbild von Dean Turner
Dean Turnervor 1 Tag

But depending on the setup it basically turns it into a partial as you never shorten the pec fully (or even get all that close) This isn’t a big deal based on length-tension relationship of the pecs per se but it still wouldn’t be my fav way of going about it

Profilbild von soham.
soham.vor 1 Tag

Well as long as the reps are standardised I'd say sacrificing the end ROM is worth it for turning it into a true isolation movement. Whatever floats your boat as they say
