One group present (with rifles) was the Revolutionary Black Panther Party. “I said it from the jump: We’re going to be peaceful until we can’t be peaceful anymore,” attendee Angelica Johnson [Da’Quain’s mother] said. “And I still stick with that.”

Officers were contacted about an armed man riding a bicycle. As they made contact, he fled. Once in an apartment complex parking lot officers deployed a K9 less lethal unit to detain Johnson. Johnson resisted on the ground and produced a firearm. Officers shot and Johnson passed away Thursday in the hospital. Upon release, there has been community outrage. "I saw somebody laying on their stomach with a dog on their back and two police officers behind them, and then I watched them shoot my son four times," Johnson’s mother said. Officers recovered Johnson’s firearm.

Luckily, the suspect missed every shot, while police returned fire and shot the armed suspect in the torso and leg. He was then transported by MCFRS to a trauma center and is expected to survive. Fortunately, no police officers were injured in the shooting. This comes just LESS THAN 24 HOURS after a US Park police officer was ambushed by two suspects and shot while sitting in a car in Southeast Washington DC yesterday evening. The US Park police officer has since been released from the hospital, and two suspects have been arrested for the shooting. We wish that officer a speedy recovery.
