Troops neutralise three suspected armed robbers in Kaduna By Zagazola Makama Troops of Operation Lafiyan Jama’a have neutralised three suspected armed robbers during an operation to recover weapons in Kaduna State. Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama on Wednesday that the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Monday during a follow-up operation based on the confession of arrested suspects. According to the sources, the three suspects had earlier been arrested in connection with a series of armed robbery attacks and were assisting troops in investigations. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to possessing arms and ammunition hidden in a forested location and offered to lead troops to the hideout. However, while en route to the location, the suspects allegedly attempted to escape by attacking a soldier and trying to snatch his weapon. Troops responded immediately, neutralising all three suspects in the process. “The quick response of the troops averted a potential escape and ensured the safety of the escorting team,” the source added. The incident occurred hours after seven persons were reportedly killed in Ratatis community, Dorowa Babuje, by suspected armed Fulani bandits. Sources confirmed that a passenger Opel Vectra conveying civilians was stopped at a road blockade mounted by suspected Berom youths. The operation, conducted on October 1, followed the rescue of three abducted persons in the Osakwa General Area of Ihiala Local Government Area, prompting a coordinated security response involving troops and local security volunteers. At about 5:30 a.m. on October 1, troops of 185 Battalion, working alongside the local security volunteers, launched a follow-up operation that led to the arrest of a suspected member of the kidnapping syndicate, identified as Sunday Obi.

The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested at about 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Obaretin community along the Benin–Sapele Road. Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle with registration number 6624011, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition from the suspect. Other items recovered include a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box and assorted charms. The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody as further investigation continues to establish his possible links to kidnapping activities and other criminal operations in the area. The arrest forms part of ongoing security operations within the 2 Division area of responsibility aimed at disrupting criminal networks and denying kidnappers freedom of movement. One of the suspects was apprehended in Banki town during joint operations and intelligence-led patrols by troops deployed under the Joint Task Force North East (JTF NE), while the second was earlier arrested in Damaturu, Yobe State, in connection with the Dec. 24 suicide bomb attack at the Gamboru Market Mosque. Zagazola report that the attack was part of the coordinated plans by Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), Ansaru and Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) elements to execute suicide bombings and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks across parts of the North-East zone. It was gathered that a Boko Haram team led by a notorious IED expert, Munzir Abu Ziyadah, allegedly prepared up to 10 person-borne improvised explosive device (PBIED) attacks from the Ali Ngulde camp axis. The terrorists reportedly moved through the Ngoshe Mountains towards Gazuwa and Ngom, infiltrating several communities in Borno State ahead of planned attacks. Upon swooping on the illegal factory, the troops were met with stiff resistance, but overpowered the Armed fighters in the fierce firefight that followed. The victims were alleged to have participated in the killing of the traditional ruler of Kwallak community, Mr Ponzhi Kwallak, who was attacked and murdered at his residence on Thursday night. Sources in the community said that the assailants stormed the monarch’s home, shot him, and made away with his motorcycle and mobile phone. The incident, which initially sparked tension and speculation within the community, was reportedly first attributed to external attackers (fulani bandits). However, subsequent developments indicated that the suspects were allegedly from within the community. Security sources said the suspects were apprehended on Friday while attempting to sell the stolen motorcycle. According to eyewitness accounts, the suspects allegedly confessed to the crime after being apprehended by members of the community. It was further gathered that the suspects were being taken to security operatives when a mob intercepted them near the Langtang North Local Government Council Secretariat and set them ablaze. The late monarch had recently received the motorcycle, which was later traced to the suspects.

Sources in the community said that the assailants stormed the monarch’s home, shot him, and made away with his motorcycle and mobile phone. The incident, which initially sparked tension and speculation within the community, was reportedly first attributed to external attackers (fulani bandits). However, subsequent developments indicated that the suspects were allegedly from within the community. Security sources said the suspects were apprehended on Friday while attempting to sell the stolen motorcycle.
