Why don’t average looking women want to be with average looking men? Or is it the case that women overestimate their own and other women’s attractiveness and underestimate men’s attractiveness? A better explanation for why men generally prefer younger women is simply that women’s fertility peaks relatively young. 2. “Basically all men would date someone 18-25 if they could.” Definitely true of some men, but in both stated and revealed preferences, most men do not want massive age gaps for long-term relationships. On average, adult men prefer someone a few to several years younger depending on their age. Nothing crazy. (This misconception is often caused by people treating results on “who looks best” as meaning “who do you want to have a relationship with.”)
