Among all the games released on the PlayStation, I think Final Fantasy VII was truly the greatest. There had been cinematic games before, but the visual quality of this game was on a completely different level compared to anything that had come before it. Maybe this was also the moment when game developers first fell into the AAA trap, struggling with blockbuster-level development costs. Personally, Final Fantasy VII was the most visually shocking console game I had ever experienced.

This is the TYPE of ART that only Indie devs can create, while Triple A devs spend all their time making another Souls Like game

Virtua Racing for the arcade (Sega/1992). Another praised technical marvel by the AM2 team, it helped to introduce 3D polygon graphics to a wider audience - a technology that was, up to that point, still restricted to the home computer niche and flight simulation industry. It's a bit short since it only contains 3 tracks, but its smoothness and responsive controls make up for that.

NBA Jam was a literal gold mine 🏀 At its peak, the game was earning $2,000 per week per cabinet. It was so successful it generated over $1 BILLION in quarters within its first year. Midway basically printed money by letting us catch on fire 🔥 #NBAJam #Retrogaming #Arcade

Brock Purdy on the narrative that he can't play in bad weather or handle a wet football: "That's their opinion. Against Green Bay [Divisional Round], it was raining, we won the game. Seattle, my rookie year, it started raining. The playoff game, we won that game… The Buffalo game was crazy, I'm not gonna lie. Just the snow and the blizzard and all that. That was on another level. But, I don't know; outside of that, I still don't buy into it. I feel like I can play in any condition and find a way to win. And I've proven it, too." via: 95.7 The Game | h/t: 49ers Webzone

A freshman punter was called up to varsity team during the homecoming game and this happens. You can only imagine what the school was like on Monday for that young man.

Just feel awful for Carson Wentz on a human level. It feels legitimately irresponsible that he was allowed to play almost the entire game.

Mystic Warriors for arcade (Konami/1993). Run and gun ninja game from the team that did SUNSET RIDERS - which is actually being shown on the drive-in theater right before the first level boss there! Nice and underrated: no home versions during the 1990s. However, it finally received its first-ever home digital release on December 21, 2023, through Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives series for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

To all the ppl saying that I'm deliberately only showing the first level or that the game turns awful later on, absolutely not. Here's sky canyon 1, one of the most fun levels in the game imo.

It was maybe the only time Mike Leach was upstaged in a post game press conference. Here is what was going on in Texas Tech’s post game that same night 19 years ago in Stillwater. (The original copy not that 17th generation YouTube link.)
