Addis Ababa’s Riverside Development is far more than a riverbank beautification project. From the Entoto to Peacock corridor to the Entoto–Kebena stretch, this is a large-scale urban transformation that extends up to 50 meters beyond the rivers, creating green corridors, public gathering spaces, walkable areas, recreation zones, and commercial spaces that are reshaping the city itself. What makes the project especially significant is its broader economic and social impact. Beyond improving the appearance and function of the riversides, it has created jobs for many people across construction, engineering, landscaping, logistics, and related sectors, while also generating opportunities for local contractors, suppliers, and businesses. The fact that so much of the work is being designed and delivered locally highlights the growing capacity of Ethiopian expertise in urban development and infrastructure. The sustainability aspect is equally important. Once dumping grounds for toxic waste and flood hazards affecting communities along the riverbanks, these areas are now being transformed into greener, healthier, and more liveable urban spaces. At the same time, the integration of commercial and public spaces demonstrates how environmental restoration and economic growth can work together rather than compete with one another. Across all districts of Punjab, areas prone to ponding, where rainwater accumulates during the rainy season, have been carefully identified. To minimize the risk of urban flooding and to strengthen the capacity of cities to manage stormwater effectively, a landmark initiative has been launched. For the first time in the history of Punjab, 358 Underground Storage Tanks (UGSs), including roadside underground storage systems equipped with recharge wells, are being constructed across the province. This major infrastructure project, with an estimated cost of Rs. 33 billion, will provide a combined storage capacity of approximately 94 million gallons of rainwater. These facilities will not only help mitigate urban flooding during heavy rainfall but will also support groundwater recharge and promote more sustainable water management in our cities. “This is My Sohna Punjab.”

The development of the Anbesa Garage - Jukrose - Goro Square corridor has brought transformative changes to a once congested area. The addition of walkways, parking facilities, children’s playgrounds, shops, public plazas, public toilets, and designated taxi and bus bays has revitalized the neighborhood, making it more accessible, inclusive, and livable for all. Corridor development projects across both urban and rural settings continue to introduce dignified, equitable public spaces that uplift communities. In particular, our recent rural corridor initiatives aim to rejuvenate rural areas and improve the quality of life for their residents. With the new year comes a new plan for getting a handle on the overwhelming number of oversized and lived-in vehicles on city streets. Compassion without accountability will not create the change neighbors across San Jose need and deserve. That’s why as we work to bring over 1,000 new interim housing placements online over the next year, we’ll also be requiring that people come indoors by establishing no encampment zones and no parking zones in select areas to preserve our progress and ensure our public spaces are available for everyone to enjoy. My goal in this budget process has always been to make sure we’re funding core, basic services in a balanced and disciplined manner. We know there is an inherent tension between asking people to pay rates, fees and taxes— and the issue of affordability. We want to make sure our city can provide the quality-of-life services that our residents deserve, but we also want to make sure we’re putting affordability first in our community. While I worry a lot about affordability, I also worry about the ability of our city to deliver quality services without more revenue. I strongly believe that if we're not making the kinds of investments we need to make in our people and our services, we will be managing decay in Austin in a very short period of time. This budget will not meet everyone’s concept of perfection. Truthfully, there are parts of the budget that I don’t like. That goes with living in a big, diverse city—different people will have different priorities, and we need to make room for all of us. Now, it is time for us to trust our voters. Voters have an opportunity in November to make a very important decision. From my perspective, the best part of this budget is that we fully fund our homeless strategy office. That was my greatest emphasis, and we've achieved it. It will make a world of difference in getting homeless people off the street in a very short period of time. I'm also very pleased with what we’ve added to funding for public safety, EMS, and wildfire prevention. A positive vote in the November tax rate election will allow us to pay for these needed services. And we make a significant investment in our parks. I look forward to a result that will be the best benefit of our community.

Today, we directed the launch of the second edition of the Dubai Mallathon, the first initiative of its kind globally to transform Dubai’s shopping malls into vibrant sports and community destinations throughout the summer. From 15 June to 15 September 2026, malls across Dubai will open daily for walking, running, and a range of sports activities. Open to all, the initiative aims to encourage a healthier, more active lifestyle by making fitness accessible and enjoyable for everyone. We invite residents and visitors alike to join the Dubai Mallathon and take part in its diverse programmes and activities. Together, we can make movement a daily habit and wellbeing a shared goal.

Today, I led an inspection of the Obalende underbridge and motor park area, where the Lagos State Government has issued an immediate quit notice to squatters occupying the space. This is not a sudden action. Notices were issued as far back as 2024, and we are now moving to redesign the area into a clean, safe, and functional public space. The location will be handed over to a private sector partner for redevelopment and long-term maintenance as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. The proposed design includes a motor garage, public toilets, sleeping bays, and electric vehicle charging points. Our objective is to end environmental degradation, remove criminal elements, and ensure that underbridge spaces serve the public in a sustainable way. I also inspected Oja Oba on Lagos Island and the Adeniji–Ilubirin loop as part of our broader effort to put open spaces to proper and productive use across the state. Let me reiterate that our environmental laws on street trading and illegal waste disposal remain fully in force. Lagos must be orderly, safe, and functional for everyone, and we will continue to act firmly and responsibly to achieve this. #CleanerLagos

These structures built by those who turned public infrastructure into personal property; featured mattresses, deep freezers, and were being used to sell sachet water and drinks - This is not only a defacement of public space but a direct violation of Lagos State’s environmental and planning laws.
