Chicago Automate was a huge success! For many attendees, this was their first time interacting with a single robot let alone many different robots in social scenarios. We let loose 4+ robot form factors where people could interact in completely unstructured scenarios. Founder Jan Liphardt also shared his thoughts on how robots must be safe for humanity, and that only though building foundational trust can we create lasting solutions. We're continuing to bring robots across the world to show what we mean at OpenMind.

Our robots now run autonomously >80% of the time. We still have human teleoperators in-the-loop, who take control when the robot gets stuck or something goes wrong. As autonomy improves, we'll grow our robot-to-operator efficiency until we have one person overseeing 10+ robots. Useful, AI-powered robots are here. And it's only going to get better.

🤖ROBOTS ARE GETTING SMARTER AT TOUCHING THE REAL WORLD Researchers from UC Berkeley, NVIDIA and Stanford introduced T-Rex, a framework that combines vision, language and tactile sensing. Instead of relying on cameras alone, robots can now respond to physical contact in real time. Robots are no longer just seeing objects. They’re learning how to FEEL them.

Robots are still rough around the edges. But if and when they do make it into the physical world, Nvidia will be right at the center of it, TIME's Nikita Ostrovsky reports from GTC — with some guest stars.

AI has turned mainstream. But not robotic. This area seems pretty hard to access, especially for retail users. OpenMind thinks differently; they're building a universal intelligence layer for robots. Key takeaways: + launching the OM1 beta - the first open-source OS for intelligent robots + the mission is to help robots reason and respond in real-time + fully integrated with up-to-date AI models A $20m fund raised led by Pantera Capital is solid proof of where OpenMind is heading. I'm paying much attention to OpenMind.

Can VLMs enable robots to autonomously improve? In our new work we ran a fleet of robot arms to collect autonomous data with VLM-proposed tasks and showed that robots can keep getting better as they are deployed, without supervision: 🧵👇

Roboticists from Robotic Systems Lab and NVIDIA Embedded are teaching four-legged robots climb and jump. After training in simulation, the robots can autonomously decide how to scramble over and under obstacles, which will help them do dangerous jobs so that humans don't have to.

Terrafirma CEO Noah Schochet and his co-founder started by building homemade robots out of Tupperware containers from their lunchboxes. Today, the company announced a $100M Series A led by Kleiner Perkins. Terrafirma's first paying customer was their landlord, who asked if their robots could demolish a building. "We went around asking, 'Who is willing to let us make some money with these robots?' Our landlord said, 'Hey, I got a building for you to demolish. You think you guys can do it?'" "We literally operated the robots ourselves and knocked down a couple buildings and got paid our first check." "We were like, 'Whoa, you can just become a robotic construction company.'"

When SceniX joined World Labs, we said spatial intelligence was never only about perceiving and generating virtual and physical worlds, but also interacting with them. Today, we’re sharing early results from that vision: building worlds that train robots. 🌎🤖↓

Disney is doing what only Disney can: spending massive R&D budgets to make robots "lovable." 💸🤖 By solving the physics of character animation with Olaf, they are creating the blueprint for mainstream acceptance. Here is how startups like Cartwheel, Sunday & Tangible are following that lead to get robots into our homes. 👇
