"Guests visit our micro-herb garden three to four times a week, often asking how we grow our produce and what fertilisers we use. They are always pleasantly surprised to learn that everything is grown organically. Many of our guests especially enjoy picking fresh chillies from the garden to take with them, and moments like these bring me a great deal of joy," says Hussein Didi, better known as Benjo. Today, Didi serves as the Chief of Herbs, Veggies, and Fruits (CHV) at Siyam World Maldives, where he has spent more than two decades with the Sun Siyam Resorts group. After retiring from a 30-year career with the Maldives Police Service, Didi joined the company as security manager at Sun Siyam Iru Veli. His passion for gardening soon led him in a new direction, and he transitioned into horticulture, applying innovative cultivation techniques to establish hydroponic and organic micro-herb production at Siyam World Maldives. Recognising the growing demand for fresh, high-quality produce across the resort's restaurants, Didi successfully introduced the cultivation of watermelons, lettuces, micro-herbs, and a variety of other fruits and vegetables using sustainable, environmentally friendly farming methods. Looking ahead, Didi hopes to expand sustainable agricultural practices across the Maldives' hospitality industry, encouraging more resorts to embrace organic farming to provide guests with healthier, locally grown produce while minimising environmental impact.

Bybit CEO Ben: Why We Didn't Renew the F1 Sponsorship In an April 23 interview with When Shift Happens, Bybit CEO Ben Zhou Ben Zhou explained why the company did not renew its Red Bull F1 sponsorship. He said the commercial value of F1 sponsorship had been declining year by year, while the cost of activating all the sponsorship rights kept rising. Maintaining the execution team alone could cost far more than the sponsorship fee, making a renewal unlikely to break even. Zhou also noted that the same guests were often invited every year, which created "relationship management" issues and made some people expect to be invited. Bybit is now looking for a branding opportunity with better value.

Reed explains why Netflix paid 4-9 months severance packages and how the Keeper Test actually worked: "One of the best things is to do large severance packages like four to nine months of salary. It feels expensive at first, but it makes the person who's let go feel better because they've got a bunch of money in their pocket. And two, it helps the manager do their job because then they don't feel as bad in letting the person go. It's like a professional sports player. The test that we encourage people to use is, if someone were quitting, would you try to keep them. Honestly, if you quit, I wouldn't try to change your mind to stay. The reason is I think I could get someone in your role that could do what you're doing plus even more, and here's why."

I usually don’t get involved in these kinds of conversations again, but since you foolishly decided to quote me, I’ll respond not just for you, but for others like you who aren’t bold enough to stupidly quote me like you just did. First, let’s get one thing straight: K1 has never been paid to perform at any of Sheikh Sulaiman’s children’s weddings. He’s just a regular guest, a friend like any other who attends and each time he decides to grace each occasion to perform as a support to his friend, hence why you’ll never see a video of Sheikh dancing with K1 on stage or enjoying his music, unlike what happened with Sheikh Jamiu Aminolohun. Secondly, the question of whether music is haram or not has different perspectives. Some scholars completely reject it, others are more lenient, and some of us base our stance on evidence suggesting music isn’t inherently haram provided it doesn’t harden your heart against the Quran or interfere with your worship. Of course, it’s better to avoid it but indulging in music isn’t wrong if it doesn’t negatively affect your spiritual life. This is why you see some of us, including Sheikh’s children attends Wizkid concerts and listening to various music genres. It doesn’t mean we are less religious or that those who avoid music are more pious than us. K1 is simply one of the guests there to entertain other guests who are his fans, friends, and music lovers. To this day, I firmly believe there’s nothing wrong with that. If you disagree, all you can do is grumble because many more weddings are coming up where K1 would grace and that doesn’t mean any of your salafi scholars would attain his heights.

Impossible to be on Twitter and not hear about them. - She's played a big role in their success. - Excited for more folks to get to know her story and see some of the behind the scenes of how they're building Beehiiv. - We talked about her journey prior to Beehiiv, how she met Tyler, why/when founders should hire a chief of staff (including why my tweet saying the opposite is wrong), acquihires, and more. (link further in the thread) ----- A couple notes on why I wanted to do this: - I've long felt that startup operators are some of the most unsung heroes in tech. - We constantly hear the same stories from the same founders (especially CEOs) and VCs involved in successful companies. - Much less common to hear from the early employees that made big but less appreciated contributions to making these companies successful. - These folks are the unsung heroes of the startup world. We think their stories should be told more often. - Lastly, I think we need spaces for more nuanced conversations with builders in startups. Too much fluff and surface level narrative in most tech media. Not enough depth about the craft of the game itself. Transparently, I don't think we've yet created the perfect representation of what I want to exist. But I think we've made a good start and will iterate from here. --- This is very much a WIP. And we're new to podcasting. Figuring out the format as we go. Any feedback on how we can make the show better, questions to ask, guests to have on, etc.... is welcome. 🙏
