In Tshwane, we have been criticised for using water tankers to ensure continued service delivery of water to residents in times of crisis. However, this positioning of blame neglects the context of what we’ve inherited and are now trying to fix -aging infrastructure.

From 1 April, City staff have been working to provide water to residents in need. We visited Hammanskraal hydrant collection points this morning along with Ward Councillors and MMC for Utility Services Cllr Frans Boshielo. While work is underway to stabilise water supply through infrastructure maintenance and repairs, residents must continue to receive adequate water supply. All these efforts form part our Water Stabilisation Plan that’s backed by funding from the City’s budget. City of Tshwane

This budget will benefit the residents of Tshwane as funds will be bolstered to improve service delivery. For the first time in years, the City will procure its own waste trucks and increase funding for the filling of key vacancies. We made a promise to residents of this Capital city when we took office, and we have kept that promise. The budget will be implemented from 1 July 2025, following extensive public consultations. "Kung susumahin, halos 70% ng Unprogrammed Appropriations sa 2026 budget ay for infrastructure projects. We could have invested in health — pero lamang pa ng 3 billion ang Unprogrammed Appropriations kumpara sa DOH budget. We could have invested in education. Pero bakit puro infra pa rin?", he said. In previous years, SAGIP has been linked for the release of funds for controversial flood control projects. The budget sponsor, Rep. Mika Suansing, welcomed the call for the removal of SAGIP — but not yet of the entire unprogrammed appropriations budget. In response, Akbayan Rep. Cendaña called against the passage of the budget with the unprogrammed appropriations: "We have to zero out the Unprogrammed Appropriations budget until we ensure that our institutions are immune from corruption. Huwag na nating payagan na patuloy na abusuhin ang kaban ng bayan." The City’s Bad Buildings Committee has returned to Pretoria Industrial for an illegal electricity disconnection operation. We've arrested an individual who was allegedly posing as a City of Tshwane contractor and was connecting electricity illegally in the area. A fake City of a Tshwane logo was found on their vehicle. We have also impounded the vehicle. Illegal connections endanger lives, damage infrastructure, and undermine service delivery.
