Bobby Miller had been heavy sinker/curveball in his outings in OKC, which has been a good plan for him. He has so much "stuff" sometimes simplifying is hard to do, because you feel like you're leaving so much of your playbook untapped. But, despite the results, last night's plan was very good. Lots of sinkers and curveballs, then 4 Seams at the top of the zone to give him a pitch to tunnel his curveball too. That's a plan that, IMO, if he commits to it, he'll figure it out. That part of the plan is the "bread and butter", then you sprinkle in some well-timed change-ups and steal some strikes along the way with his slider. There have been example after example over the years of pitchers who became great that took a minute to master the execution piece to arrive at the best version of themselves. And, for Miller, it's no secret, it's ALL about execution, and simplicity leads to better execution. Also, Miller's "care factor" is so high that, IMO, sometimes it works against him. He wants to do well so badly, and he is so competitive, that, instead of moving to the next pitch, frustrations seem to linger. He seems to be, at least somewhat, a "perfectionist" trying to play a game of failure. That mental piece has taken down player after player, so that is something he has to overcome to keep things from snowballing. Just my .02 cents, add $5 to it and you might be able to get a Jumbo Jack. #dodgers
