Peskov blames Ukraine again for "unwillingness to continue the negotiation process". It is Russia that is unwilling to start a ceasefire and end the war. Today our delegation returned from Geneva after negotiations with the American side and European partners. Now the list of necessary steps to end the war can become doable. As of now, after Geneva, there are fewer points – no longer 28 – and many of the right elements have been taken into account in this framework. There is still work for all of us to do together to finalize the document, and we must do everything with dignity. We appreciate that most of the world is ready to help us and that the American side is approaching this constructively. Practically the entire day yesterday was filled with meetings – and it was challenging, extremely thorough work. Our team has reported on the new draft of steps, and this is indeed the right approach – I will discuss the sensitive issues with President Trump. Ukraine will never be an obstacle to peace – this is our principle, a shared principle, and millions of Ukrainians are counting on, and deserve, a dignified peace. We will do everything for this, and we are ready to work as quickly as possible. We also understand how many interests surround Ukraine – and above all, there is the interest from Russia to derail this opportunity for an agreement and to prolong the war. We can see which interests are intertwined, and who is trying really hard to weaken our position – Ukraine’s position – spreading disinformation, intimidating our people… We are countering every such attempt to derail the end of the war. We are working to ensure it takes place as soon as possible. Ukraine’s interest is not to prolong the war, but to be prepared for any development. Ukraine is ready to take the fastest possible steps — for a real ceasefire and the establishment of a new security architecture. We are doing all the necessary groundwork on our side. What’s needed is a reciprocal readiness from Russia – and it’s not there now, and without global pressure, that will not change. We are doing our part to maintain that pressure, primarily through our defence and active operations. I thank all our warriors for their resilience and real results.

Chancellor Merz: Our message to Russia is this: it is time to come to the negotiating table. It is time to agree to a ceasefire. It is time to end the unnecessary bloodshed in Ukraine. It will be up to Ukraine and its partners, not Moscow, to decide exactly how we shape our security guarantees. Ukraine is ready to end the war. It always has been. At the moment, the partners’ priority and all attention are focused on the situation around Iran, and because of this the meeting that had been planned for this week is being postponed at the proposal of the American side. However, Ukraine is ready for a meeting at any moment, in a format that can help and that will be realistic in terms of ending the war. The team reported on the plans of the Russian side, as far as it is known to us, primarily thanks to our intelligence services. I instructed the team to once again communicate with the American negotiators in order, first, to reiterate our readiness for strategic joint work for security and, in particular, protection against strike drones, and second, to once again confirm our readiness to work substantively toward ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. We see that the Russians are now trying to manipulate the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region in favor of their aggression, and also to effectively turn the Iranian regime’s strikes against its neighbors and American bases into a second front of Russia’s war against Ukraine and, more broadly, against the entire West. This must not be allowed. Evil must not be given opportunities for coordination, but the protection of life must be clearly coordinated. This is exactly what we are working for. This is clearly the wrong approach. This is, in fact, a typical Russian negotiation tactic - to demand what has never belonged to them. That's why we warn that this is a trap that we should not fall into. In fact, to find a solution to this war, clear concessions from Russia are necessary. And if we, together with the Americans, exert pressure on Russia, then we can achieve the end of this war and sustainable peace in the long term. - SK

Today, Ukrainian representatives will continue their discussions in the United States with President Trump’s team. Our task now is to obtain full information about what was said in Moscow and what other pretexts Putin has come up with to drag out the war and to pressure Ukraine. Ukraine is prepared for any possible developments, and of course we will work as constructively as possible with all partners to ensure that peace is achieved – and that it is, after all, a dignified peace. Only a dignified peace provides real security, and we fully understand that this requires – and will continue to require – the support of our partners.

Today, I received a report from our negotiating team following the second day of their meetings in America with envoys of the President of the United States. I am very grateful to American society for its clear support for a normal, dignified peace for Ukraine. It is important that none of us is forced to return to war in a few months or years, which means that security guarantees for Ukraine and for all of Europe must be sufficient for a reliable peace. I expect that after the negotiating team returns to Ukraine, we will discuss in detail all aspects of the meetings, which for now cannot be safely discussed over the phone. There are signals that further exchanges may be possible, and this would be good news and confirmation that diplomacy is working. We hope this will happen.
