We Have Won! No one can use ‘ORS’ on their label unless it’s a WHO-recommended formula. This is the story of Dr. Sivaranjani Santosh, a braveheart paediatrician from Hyderabad, who fought for 8 years against sugar-rich drinks falsely marketed as ORS. Her persistence led to FSSAI’s landmark order, protecting...

Sir, let there be a strong law to protect future generations aswell! Nothing except WHO recommended formula ORS and water should ever be available in the pharmacies, medical facilities, and schools! Otherwise, even if there is no ORS on the label, these high sugar liquids/stevia containing liquids will be handed out to parents when they ask for ORS during diarrhoea and dehydration, especially in the rural areas! We can't allow a child to die because of worsening of diarrhoea/inadequate rehydration due to these liquids, Sir! Awareness needs to be raised about the right way of preparing ORS solution using the ORS sachets. Awareness has to be raised about WHO recommended formula ORS. The instructions on the labels need to be in regional languages, in big font, and with pictorial representation as well. Scanning the QR code can give out verbal instructions aswell in the regional language. ORS/DRS/QRS etc should not be there on the labels of any drink ever even if it's being sold in the supermarkets/online commerce platforms unless it conforms to the WHO recommended formula ORS. Let that the 15th October FSSAI order be implemented with immediate effect. I am not against any company! I am against misbranding, misleading labelling and selling of high sugar liquids to parents when they ask for the LIFE SAVING ORS! 'I would have restrained the manufacturers from manufacturing fresh batches had I known that FSSAI would take two weeks to take a decision. The CONSENT ORDER was passed to enable the FSSAI to take the requisite steps. It wasn't to allow all these manufacturers to continue manufacturing these products. The idea was that FSSAI would do the needful in two to three days', the Delhi High Court said. FSSAI said it will DECIDE the matter by FRIDAY(31st October) "If you(FSSAI) are unable to do it, you move an application. I contemplate passing orders to restrain the manufacturers from manufacturing", the Court further said. I(Dr Sivaranjani Santosh) am surprised that even Reddy Laboratories has challenged the FSSAI's order of Oct 14th and 15th! Reddy Laboratories(RebalanzVitORS) and JNTL(Kenvue- Johnson&Johnson)(ORSL), please have some ethics, and some moral responsibility towards the children and people of this country. DISCLAIMERS CAN'T PROTECT DUBIOUS LABELS! NOT MANY IN OUR COUNTRY WILL EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT A DISCLAIMER IS! Zydus(GluconDActivORS) doesn't have a disclaimer also! MY FEAR IS THAT EVEN AFTER CHANGING THE LABEL (O CAN BECOME Q/D), THESE DRINKS AND OTHER HIGH DRINKS(HIMALAYA REHYDRATE, ELECTROCHOICE, ZINCOVITACTIVE etc), WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE PHARMACIES, HOSPITALS, AND SCHOOLS! There has to be a strong law to protect future generations aswell! Nothing except WHO recommended formula ORS and water should ever be available in the pharmacies, medical facilities, and schools! Otherwise, even if there is no ORS on the label, these high sugar liquids/stevia containing liquids/zero sugar liquids will be handed out to parents when they ask for ORS, especially in the rural areas! We can't allow a child to die because of worsening of diarrhoea due to these liquids! Awareness needs to be raised about the right way of preparing ORS solution using the ORS sachets. Awareness has to be raised about WHO recommended formula ORS. The instructions on the labels need to be in regional languages, in big font, and with pictorial representation as well(4.1 grams sachet in 200ml water and 20.5 grams sachet in one litre water. Discard after 24 hours. Never do random dispersal of a random amount of the salts in a random amount of water!) ORS/DRS/QRS etc should not be there on the labels of any drink ever even if it's being sold in the supermarkets/online e commerce platforms unless it conforms to the WHO recommended formula ORS. Let the 15th October FSSAI order be implemented with immediate effect. I am not against any company! I am against misleading labelling and selling of high sugar liquids/low sugar drinks/zero sugar drinks/other inappropriately formulated drinks to the parents when they ask for the LIFE SAVING ORS! The MoHFW has to take the 'STOP DIARRHOEA CAMPAIGN' TO EVERY NOOK AND CORNER OF THE COUNTRY WITH A SENSE OF URGENCY TO STOP THE 50000 children from dying due to diarrhoea every year in the under five age group(earlier it was 1 to 3 lakhs), and GIVING OUT ONLY WHO RECOMMENDED FORMULA ORS SACHETS WITH CLEAR AWARENESS ABOUT THE RIGHT WAY OF PREPARING THE SOLUTION IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! INDIA HAS THE BEST OF PROGRAMMES FOR CHILD HEALTH, BUT........ FSSAI Ministry of Health Jagat Prakash Nadda Narendra Modi

Hyderabad-based paediatrician Sivaranjani Santosh, whose eight-year battle led to a key regulatory shift on ORS labelling, is now facing legal trouble after pharma majors issued a notice accusing her of making false, misleading, disparaging and defamatory remarks about their products. The development comes after the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in an order issued in October 2025, stated that no food brand may use the term ‘Oral Rehydration Salts’ or ‘ORS’ unless the formulation strictly adheres to standards recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO). A cease and desist notice dated March 16 alleges that Dr. Santosh made defamatory statements on social media about products, including ORSL and its rebranded version ERZL. The notice states that the companies are science-based and compliant with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and asserts that their claims are backed by scientific evidence and regulatory approvals. Referring to ongoing regulatory and legal developments, the notice cites proceedings before the Delhi High Court, stating that the court had observed that the products in question were ‘not adulterated or unsafe for use’ and that the dispute was limited to branding aspects. The notice denies claims that erstwhile ORSL products continue to be sold or that ERZL is being marketed as an ORS substitute, stating that distributors have been instructed to return or relabel older stock in compliance with FSSAI directions. The companies have demanded that Dr. Santosh immediately remove all allegedly defamatory posts, refrain from making further statements against them or their products, and avoid unauthorised use of their trademarks. Responding through her Instagram page, Dr. Sivaranjani defended her position and questioned the legal notice. She said her position was consistent with and supported by the FSSAI orders issued on October 14 and 15, 2025 and added that the Delhi High Court had refused to grant a stay. She argued that presenting ERZL as a new form of ORSL would violate the regulatory directive and could confuse parents who previously associated ORSL with ORS.

In May 2018, FSSAI submitted it's first draft in the Parliament saying there would be a RED MARK on the FRONT OF THE LABEL if the pack contained food with high amounts of SALT/SUGAR/SATURATED FAT. In September 2022, because of the pressure from the food industry (inspite of resistance from the consumer organizations), FSSAI submitted another draft favoring the star rating system. In 2024, 3S and our health society filed a PIL in the Supreme Court saying that FSSAI should make FOPL warning mandatory. On 10th Feb 2026, Supreme Court directing FSSAI to consider implementing FOPL warning and to get back in 4 weeks. FSSAI asked for some more time. There was a stakeholders' meeting on the 19th of March 2026 where most of the people werefrom the food industry and a few were from the consumers. A couple of representatives from NAPi were there, including Dr. Arun Gupta MD FIAP (Ped) Anytime, the FSSAI will submit it's final plan now. We, Indians have to put such tremendous pressure on FSSAI that it won't have a choice but to go for FOPL warning that warns every innocent ignorant Indian as well, about the packed food being high in SALT/SUGAR/SATURATED FAT. It is time all the influemcers and all the people rise up to the occasion and let FSSAI know what we need, just like how we did when there was a stay order (when Kenvue asked for a stay citing that recalling its 180 crore stock would spoil the name it had built for two decades) on the FSSAI order of October 14th and 15th asking companies not to have ORS in the branding or on the label, and to not use the term ORS for marketing of beverages/foods. ORS is a drug. Only CDSCO can give permission/licence. Only WHO recommended formula ORS is allowed to have ORS on the label. Not just adults, even children are facing tremendous risk of obesity related complications with the food industry targeting them through various marketing strategies including celebrity endorsements. PLEASE SAVE INDIANS! ASK FOR FOPL WARNING! LET THIS MOVEMENT BECOME A TSUNAMI! Goliath won! This era's David can't fight Corporate+Government authorities! Headlines Today- Kenvue introduces ORSL for diarrhoeal and eRZL for daily hydration! What can a citizen do when the Govt. authorities are in cahoots with a corporate which is not wanting to do ethical branding of it's product?! The eRZL is sweetened with SUCRALOSE, an artificial sweetener. It is not allowed below 2 years of age, and even for older children, it is not recommended on a regular basis. It can worsen the diarrhoea, it can affect the gut microbiome, it can cause children develop preferences for sweet foods and lose appetite for healthy foods, and the long term effects are debatable. Abbot had to remove it from Paedialyte for these reasons, and there are multiple court cases against Abbot for these very concerns. For that matter, this can't be recommended for adults also for daily hydration. eRZL is so deceptively similar to ORSL, and is going to be available in pharmacies and hospitals again! Parents who were always believing ORSL was the real ORS, are going to think this is the new version of ORSL(ORS as far as they are concerned), and imagine the havoc it can wreak! Here, I am requesting you all to write to the Trade Marks Registrar and the FSSAI CEO, and Kenvue has already made the announcement! How did they get permission in less than 2 months for eRZL branding and in less than 1 month for the varieties of eRZL?! I do not think I can fight this team comprising of the CORPORATE AND AUTHORITIES any more! Narendra Modi, Sir, you stop them from playing with the lives and health of the children, atleast! Please, Sir! FSSAI Ministry of Health Jagat Prakash Nadda Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal Piyush GoyalOffc #orsl #erzl #hydration #sucralose #kenvue #johnsonjohnson

When The Hunger Games movie becomes a reality. It's taking me almost 48 hrs to process the news of the loss of Dr. Jackie Stone. She was an exceptional Dr who saved many lives in Zimbabwe. My husband and I went to visit her in Victoria Falls where I was asked to speak to the local Drs and present my data treating hypoxic patients which supported hers. Her bravery was beyond. She risked her life saving patients with oxygens in their 30s. She was stopped from treating and had to go to court 27 times to defend her license. She put all her money into legal fees. She was detained, almost put in jail, and finally lost her license, her identity, and her purpose. Most patients criticize the medical establishment specifically Doctors for not treating COVID-19 but here is a perfect example of a dr pushed to the limit. Who came to her defense? Who paid her legal fees? Who looked after her 3 children? When She lost her license and could no longer afford food, who came to help her? How many Drs will innovate or try anything anymore to save their patients? The system is rigged… Thugs are running the show... Dr. Jackie Stone was a remarkable strong woman who raised 3 successful kids. She fought for freedom of choice and fought for early treatment. In the end, she saw a world of AI controlling humanity, erasing the need for Drs, and erasing human contact. She also saw that the whole pandemic was beyond the government. She stopped having hope and ended her life… No one can truly understand the struggles some put up with during COVID. I am still in disbelief that she ended her life. I will remember her as the woman in these videos who was a fighter and took me to collect 💩of all animals in the wild ... RIP JACKIE. You were and are my hero… The movie will be written to tell your story, my friend. I am sure you are shaking heaven right now to give those of us left strength to fight Goliath… We will continue to fight for our freedom of choice and our freedom of speech. We the people for the people. In god we trust to #MAHA but also the world. AI will not replace Drs. #LETDRSBEDRS #savetheBif
