Accra–Kumasi Expressway Project This historic project marks Ghana’s first true expressway, a modern high-speed corridor linking Accra and Kumasi. Stretching almost 200 kilometres from the coast to the forest belt, the expressway will transform travel and trade, cut journey times significantly, and boost growth across the southern regions. The route runs southeast to northwest through the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti regions, touching key towns like Adeiso, Asamankese, Akim Oda, Ofoase, and Kwaso. In total, the highway covers 198.7 kilometres, including 23 kilometres of urban connecting sections in Accra and Kumasi built to a 4-lane standard at 60 kilometres per hour, and a 175-kilometre main expressway of 6 lanes designed for speeds up to 120 kilometres per hour. This is the new Accra - Kumasi diversion road constructed by Nana Akuffo Addo & Dr. Bawumia, this diversion starts from Anyinam in the Eastern Region straight to Konongo in the Ashanti Region, it was nearing completion when NPP left power. Sadly, this Government has abandoned this road and is now going to take another Loan to build another new road from Accra to Kumasi which they call express road. Hmmmm

We are currently executing the reconstruction of the Iperu–Ilishan corridor. The road spans 5.3 kilometres and is being dualized to meet the needs of the communities along the route. This upgrade will also provide direct access from the Gateway International Airport to the Sagamu–Benin Expressway. As part of the project scope, we are constructing more than 5.0 kilometres of drainage and outfall systems designed to permanently address the flooding challenges that previously affected this environment. This is the same strategic road that passes through the Gateway International Airport, making its expansion even more critical for accessibility and future traffic flow. Work is progressing in phases. Earthworks and major drainage installations are ongoing, while laterite placement continues across various sections. Several portions ahead of the current active zone have already reached stone-base level and are now ready for asphalting. This demonstrates the pace and structure we have established to ensure steady, uninterrupted progress on the project. The Iperu–Ilishan road remains an important socioeconomic link, serving residents, businesses and airport-bound commuters. Its reconstruction is essential for mobility, commerce and overall community development. Our focus is on delivering top-quality engineering using the best materials and maintaining high professional standards so the people along this axis can enjoy a durable and efficient road network.
