There is literally a Ministry of War Veterans Affairs. That means it’s a government obligation, not a personal side project for any one leader. So the real question is: 👉 Is this a systemic government failure? 👉 Or are we now simplifying accountability to one person depending on the political moment? JD Vance is running on a ticket with a draft dodger but decided it was a good idea to denigrate the service of Gov. Tim Walz, who served honorably for 24 years. Walz became the highest-ranking enlisted veteran ever to serve in Congress. He helped end the military’s anti-LGBTQ "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy. While in Congress, Walz became the ranking Democrat on the House Veterans Affairs Committee — he not only fought against Trump’s plans to privatize veterans' healthcare but also helped veterans get their benefits. This has to be the longest standing ovation for anyone or anything I have ever witnessed. 4000 high school students in Normandy, France standing to honor our World War II veterans. This area in northern France has not forgotten the events of 80 years ago. Honored and humbled beyond words to be here with my daughter volunteering with the Best Defense Foundation supporting their mission to “take care of the ones who took care of us” assisting World War II veterans as they return to the sand and soil on which they fought.
