@drdrew An admirable cause. Drug addiction skyrocketed during covid lockdowns. It was already a problem before, but it was definitely compounded during that period.

@drdrew Unfortunate choice. He once said "Fauci and I, we went through five pandemics together!" - I know he probably repented just so he can make money off of Conservatives, but TV doctors carry extra weight, he clearly abused that in early covid, and he's now getting away scott free.

This is a preview of my campaign’s new documentary Recovering America that premiered in Albuquerque last weekend. In the film I visit addiction recovery programs that are models of success nationwide and learn firsthand about the scope of our addiction crisis. As an addict who has been sober for 40 years, making Recovering America was a powerful experience for me. I believe the ideas in this film can lead millions of people not just toward sobriety, but toward meaningful relationships and productive careers, and the ways in which addiction can and are being solved could be replicated at a federal level, if I win this November. For decades, I’ve maintained my sobriety by regularly participating in the sobriety of others and attending AA meetings. The changes I’ve seen in those 40 years are astounding. Today, twice as many Americans die of addiction every year as died during the entire Vietnam War. And while there have been incredible innovations in recovery programs, as a nation we have failed to address the staggering magnitude of the crisis. Next up is getting ready for compassionate intervention, which says if addiction has made someone a danger to themselves or others, they may be given a treatment order for recovery. There is nothing compassionate about leaving families and communities helpless in dealing with those most overcome by addiction.

I’ve never felt so seen and validated in my life🥹 In this podcast with Benjamin Bikman and Dr. Mindy Pell, Dr. Bikman explains perfectly the physical/hormonal reason for food/carb addiction, and why those of us who suffer from it will literally eat ourselves sick with carbohydrates. I can’t count how many times I’ve been on this shame spiral. The hormone GLP1, that tells us we’re satiated when eating carbs, simply doesn’t alert obese/carb addicted individuals. However it does give the signal to a lean person regardless of what they’re eating. I find this fascinating and VERY validating. People always say there’s no such thing as food addiction… Well, as somebody who is food addicted I’m here to say yes there is! ~The full podcast can be found at this link
