Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had in January 2025 approved the establishment of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) to revise the salaries and benefits of Central Government employees and pensioners. All Central Government pensioners who had retired before 1.1.2016 are receiving pension at par with employees who retired after 1.1.2016. Keeping in view the recommendations which were made by the 6th CPC, a distinction among pensioners is inevitable and that is what is being brought in as an amendment and by way of validation. The validation rules DO NOT, in any way, change or alter the existing pensions so fixed of existing Civil Pensioners from the present stage. The validation rules also DO NOT affect Defense Pensioners in any way as they are covered by separate rules. It is not an amendment to any pension Rules or instructions but only a reaffirmation of the same w.e.f. 1st June, 1972, i.e. the date the CCS (Pension) Rules were promulgated. The 6th Central Pay Commission made a distinction between the retirees of pre-1.1.2006 and those of post-1.1.2006 periods. The then-Government (Congress-led UPA) had accepted the recommendations of 6th Central Pay Commission and decided that there will be a distinction between pensioners with reference to the cut-off date of 1.1.2006. The 7th Central Pay Commission has brought in parity between pre 1.1.2016 and post 1.1.2016 Pensioners. I again reiterate that this is only a Validation of existing rules. International VP of the United Steelworkers Roxanne Brown: I don’t know if I can curse on this podcast, but I’m a steelworker. One of the things I always say is, you can’t bullshit a steelworker. You can’t bullshit a union member, right? Union workers know the real and understand who is for them. When bullshit is in front of them, they’re able to identify what it is and see through that. That’s what I would really implore my brothers, sisters, and siblings across the labor movement: don’t be snowed by the bullshit. Pay attention, do your research on what Trump has done for workers versus what the Biden-Harris Administration has done for workers, and you will find there’s a huge gap. The Biden-Harris Administration has gone leaps and bounds—not just now but into the future—to secure a foundation for American working families and workers to propel into economic prosperity. What Trump has done is not that. He has told us from his own mouth that he doesn’t want us to be organized. He doesn’t support the right of workers to join unions. He does not support the right of workers to earn overtime or that extra bit of income to have more money in your paychecks to do the things you need to do for your family to survive. He has told you he does not support your retirement. He never supported the Butch Lewis Act. Over a million workers would still be facing a crisis and not being able to access their earned retirement if we still had a Trump administration. There are record numbers of people accessing health care because the Biden-Harris Administration has spent the time to get folks enrolled in the ACA to be able to access health care. These are gains, brothers, sisters, and siblings, that would not have happened under a Trump administration. These are gains that matter to your pocketbooks, gains that matter to your kitchen table because you need food on that table to survive. These are gains that matter to your kids’ future because they need jobs. Not everybody’s going to college. They need good union jobs to help them survive and earn a respectable living into the future. That does not come with that man who does not believe in us. We believe in us as working people. So pay attention, don’t be snowed by the bullshit. We know better.

As the president has said multiple times, he thought this was going to be the easiest war to solve. I agreed with him. It has turned out to be much more difficult, but I think that we're making progress, Bill. I think we're making progress with both the Russians and the Ukrainians, and we're just going to keep working at it. Eventually, we're either going to be successful or we're not going to be. Right now, the president has some good optimism that we can bring this thing to a successful close. It's bad for the world, it's bad for America, so we're going to keep working at it.

The safety of workers is critical and so are the facts. There’s been a lot said about the CFMEU and Victorian workers this week. We stand firmly for workers’ rights. For fair pay, safe workplaces, and secure conditions. No one should fear having their wages cut or their hard-earned entitlements clawed back. And we can’t let this serious issue be the subject of untested and unfounded information. Victorians deserve honesty and workers deserve protection, not political games and the deep desire of the Liberals to claw back workers pay and conditions.
