Labor and Greens have just created a new environmental bureaucracy in Canberra that has unfettered powers to override the property rights of any Australian freehold property in the name of the “environment.” At a time when Australia desperately needs more industry and infrastructure, activists can now use this department to stop much needed economic development. It’s worth pointing out, the Federal Government doesn’t even have power under the constitution to make laws in regards to the environment. It is only under the foreign treaties power that the Federal Government gets away wirh this thanks to Bob Hawke suing the Tasmanian Government in 1983. The Tasmanian Dams Decision gave the Federal Government the power to stop State Governments from building Infrastructure. Our founding fathers would be rolling in their graves if they knew how our constitutional checks and balances have been undermined. Our unelected bureaucracy is literally running the country unchecked. Anthony Albanese confirmed crucial changes in the EPBC Act would include the establishment of a federal environmental protection agency.” Which is “The EPA will be an independent statutory body, similar to the Australian Federal Police Commissioner, to ensure its enforcement work is free from political interference. It will have the power to issue Environment Protection Orders (stop-work orders) for urgent circumstances and increase penalties for serious environmental breaches. The EPA will be responsible for assessing large projects, including those that have a significant impact on the environment, and will have the ability to issue permits and licences.

California’s High Speed Rail Authority is officially on notice. Missed deadlines, budget shortfalls, mismanagement and overrepresentation of projected leadership are unacceptable. CHSRA has 37 days to try to explain why this project isn’t a massive boondoggle, then U.S. Department of Transportation could redirect these funds to other more deserving infrastructure projects and ensure America is building again!
