Controlled burn to prevent crossover of a wildfire that would otherwise spread uncontrollably

It’s a controlled burn. Forestry departments don’t all the time to eliminate risk of wildfires by burning the underbrush in an area while conditions are good and easier to control. Doing this prevents a wildfire from breaking out when it’s extremely dry later on. It’s preventative maintenance.
