Today in Kyiv, a Summit is taking place that has brought together 24 countries, primarily from Europe. All of our European neighbors are represented: Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, and Belarus. We all support the aspiration of the Belarusian people to free themselves from Russian interference, and we know that Russia is now trying to drag Belarus even deeper into this war against Ukraine. We value every expression of support from Belarusians for a free Ukraine, and we know that the day will come when there will once again be good-neighborly relations between our states – based on the real independence of both Ukraine and Belarus from Moscow. This is exactly what we discussed today with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and her team, who are visiting Kyiv. Ukraine has never been a threat to Belarus. And we are grateful to those Belarusians who stand with Ukraine – now, when the fate of both our independence and the independence of every nation that borders Russia is being decided.

The joint path of Ukraine and Moldova toward European Union membership must be coordinated. We are working closely on this matter, and today I discussed it with President Maia Sandu, focusing primarily on the simultaneous opening of the first negotiating clusters. We also paid special attention to bilateral cooperation – in the areas of trade, energy, and security. Additionally, we discussed strengthening trilateral cooperation between Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania. I thank Moldova for its consistent support of Ukraine during Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Today, we discussed joint work in the energy sector, the infrastructure that connects us and constitutes a significant part of the economic potential of our countries, the development of security capabilities, and our European integration. It is important that we are here like this – together – Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania. On Moldova’s Independence Day, and just a few days after Ukraine marked its Independence Day. And all of this is much more than mere symbolism. When you are a neighbor of Russia, you need to cooperate as closely as possible with all your other neighbors, with all other free nations. This is a key prerequisite for reliable defense and, more broadly, for development. Unfortunately, our peoples have already had to experience unfreedom – precisely because of Moscow. This must remain in the past. From now on, and forever, we must safeguard our independence, our freedom, and therefore our ability to develop our own potential – our own life.

We also exchanged views on the efforts needed to achieve peace for Ukraine, the priorities of Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026, and coordinated positions for further diplomatic work. We discussed diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine and across Europe, the meeting in Istanbul, and the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia to prevent Moscow from expanding its military production and continuing the war. I met with President of France Emmanuel Macron. We discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, the escalation by Russia against European countries, and the cases of detected drones in Poland, Romania, and Denmark, as well as fighter jets in Estonia. A swift response and action are needed. We also focused on the use of frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine and on further tightening sanctions against Russia, in particular regarding its shadow tanker fleet. I thank Emmanuel and all of France for supporting Ukraine and for efforts aimed at bringing peace closer.

I had a substantive discussion with the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico 🇸🇰. We covered key topics — matters of principle for Ukraine and matters of principle for Slovakia. I informed about our conversation yesterday with President Trump, our work with leaders of the Coalition of the Willing to advance peace and ensure Ukraine’s security, and the security architecture for Europe. And Slovakia will not stand aside. The Prime Minister told me about his contacts in China. A separate and important topic was Europe’s energy independence — Russian oil, just as Russian gas, has no future. Slovakia supports Ukraine on its path toward the European Union. This is highly significant. We also share the view that Ukraine and Moldova must continue moving together toward EU membership. Equally important is that bilateral cooperation on economic, energy, and infrastructure matters here, in our region, strengthens our peoples and our countries. Thank you for the meeting. It is important that we have this dialogue, and we will continue it.

During a meeting with Prime Minister of Romania Ilie Ilie Bolojan, we discussed defense support. I thank Romania for its military assistance and contributions to the PURL initiative. Strengthening air defense is a priority for Ukraine. It is important to develop the energy network between our countries, which will help Ukraine amid shortages caused by ongoing Russian attacks on our energy infrastructure, and also support Romania when we have a surplus and can export electricity. Therefore, cooperation in the energy sector was also a key topic of our discussion. Particular attention was given to expanding border crossing points between Ukraine and Romania. We also discussed work on an intergovernmental agreement on joint oversight at the Ukraine–Romania border crossings. I thank Ilie Bolojan for the meeting and for his support of Ukraine.

With the help of you amazing fans being with us week in week out next season you will have European Football, European Nights! That is why, together with our partners, we are doing everything possible to bolster air defense and enhance protection. Together with Norway, we are building a strategic partnership in the field of security and defense. We are interested in a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership that will strengthen the defense potential of both Ukraine and Norway, in particular through the development and implementation of the Drone Deal. I thank Norway, its government, and all its people for supporting Ukraine. I am grateful for the allocation of €9 billion in assistance for this year. This is important for Ukraine.

I met with Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy Antonio Tajani. We discussed the consequences of Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. This is a global challenge for fuel, gas, and fertilizer markets, and we are offering our partners in the region our unique expertise to address these threats together. This is recognized both in Italy and across Europe, and this is important. It is no secret that Russia uses every platform to whitewash its aggression, and we discussed how to counter such propaganda. We agreed that our teams will align their positions in this area. We continue to develop cooperation between the institutions of our countries. I thank Italy for its support.
