When they get shows about the working class right, it’s often a triumph. That’s how it was with Early Doors. Yes they bickered with each other and teased each other. They sometimes fell out. But deep down there was warmth and heart and goodness. There was solace. #EarlyDoors

The Early Doors podcast is available everywhere, @PhilMealey and me (Ben) go/going through all the episodes and interviews with the cast. I highly recommend it

Always felt that Early Doors never got the recognition it deserved.

It was magnificent. Grew up in pubs just like it. Phenomenally accurate. 100% true to life. Often brought me to tears because it reminded me of so many I knew and loved. Ordinary folk…but bloody giants.

Ordinary folk... but bloody giants That's a lovely way of putting it Sally

Folk in community. Worked down the pit or made sanitary pipes, soap factory, crisp or biscuit factory or brewery. Hard life but by God, never moaned. Kind, selfless and funny.

The BBC should’ve let them make a third series, it still had so much to give.

One of my favourite moments is when they have the whip round so Joan and Eddie can pay the phone bill, then they instantly over to get everyone a drink to say thanks. Warm spirited and well intentioned, generous and silly. Sums it up perfectly

Eddie will probably still be banging on about those temporary traffic lights on Samuel Street, 23 years later… Anyway… To the Regiment! 🍺

Yes of course I've got a SoundCloud. If you're expecting Woodward and Bernstein, you're going to be disappointed. But if whimsical chats are your thing, bingo. Here I am talking to Hazel Irvine about the BBC's coverage of February's Winter Olympics:

Eric Chappell, who wrote Rising Damp, said a good comedy needs human conflict, familiar settings and relatable characters. Early Doors had this in abundance. A tradgedy there was only two series.

It was made at the perfect time, pub communities like this are rarer by the day (Coz none of us are made of money) The writers and performers were all in the right place At the right time Little did WE know how much we needed THEM 🥹🫶
