Under Baath nationalisation in the 1960s, the official Franciscan school was taken over - but teaching continued clandestinely. The inauguration of the "Holy Land School", which began resuming activities since last year, happened in Qanya-Yaqubiyah, two Christian villages in SW Idlib countryside. "After it had been closed for nearly 60 years by the Ba'ath Party and the Assad regime, we participated today in the reopening of the Holy Land School in both Qanya and Yaqubiya in the al-Shughour area of the western ldlib countryside, so that its doors may reopen to our children and students."
