Over the past 25 years, I have taken up numerous causes as a journalist for the sake of the common citizens of India, particularly in Kashmir. Throughout my career, I have paid a heavy price for speaking truth to power, including during my 2019 testimony at the US Congress. Now, five years later, I am back, still asking tough questions about the swamp. Today, it was great to speak up and pose questions at the Oval Office in the White House before President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the challenges to electoral democracy within both the US and India.

Over the past 25 years, I have taken up numerous causes as a journalist for the sake of the common citizens of India, particularly in Kashmir. Throughout my career, I have paid a heavy price for speaking truth to power, including during my 2019 testimony at the US Congress. Instead of asking about the horrific crimes of the mullahs in Iran today, they raise questions about events from half a century ago related to the Shah’s era. The first impeachment hoax against President Trump was fueled, in part, by the media’s refusal to cover Biden’s corrupt business dealings in Ukraine. It led to this awful war: billions of dollars sent overseas to fuel a conflict costing hundreds of thousands of lives. The media still hasn’t admitted their role in it. There’s a reason they’re nearly as despised as Congress; Americans see journalists as more interested in tearing down this country than reporting the truth.

I’ve tried to mind my business, but when Black peoples are being terrorized in my city, that’s my business. Tonight I went before the city council here in Baton Rouge to express my grievances against the government. Not everybody like when you speak the truth plainly, but I have learned that the truth stands against opinions and lies. So tell it. If what happened in the Brave Cave in Baton Rouge had happened to white women and men people would be in jail already. I have put a demand on the leaders I’ve gone out and asked people to support on this very platform. So I won’t be a hypocrite, I will challenge them the same way I did their predecessor when injustice was done to Black people. Advocacy is about consistency. It’s about moving the conversation even if it makes everyone uncomfortable. Too many of us care more about decorum than we do injustice. I have never and will never cease to speak truth to power. I’m going to always rise to speak for my people, especially when the leaders we’ve elected have been so silent. Arrest the cops, that’s what justice looks like. #WorkToDo #KeepPushing #RisingAlways

News of Sinn Féin election victory in the North features prominently on the Guardian website, one of the world’s most popular news sites. Back in Ireland, the Irish indo’s website appears to have buried the story so far down it’s home page you need to scroll for >1 minute. And still nothing! Propaganda by omission is not just something RTE specialise in. It’s endemic across Irish media. Bury the good news about parties or people that threaten the crony gravy train, go to town on the slightest whiff of anything that could even be insinuated as bad for those who threaten Irish elites. It’s comical, but also deeply destructive to any sense of democracy. But then that’s the actual role of Irish media - prop up the corny gravy train, lie and manipulate to do so, all the while pretending to care about democracy and the truth.
