In response to the state government's drive against illegal encroachment of reserved and protected forest areas in the hills of Manipur as well as the clampdown on poppy cultivation in these hills, on 3 May 2023, Kukis (who have captured the hill regions of Manipur) began setting Meitei homes on fire in Churachandpur district. The year ends on a heartwarming note for us at TN Forest Department, as our Foresters united a lost baby elephant with her mother and the herd after rescue in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve at Pollachi. The little calf was found searching for the mother when field teams spotted her. With the help of drones & experienced forest watchers the herd was located and the tiny calf was safely reunited. Teams are still on ground for monitoring. I was shocked to see this video that is spreading quickly on social media. This is the reserved forest of Khalanga in #Dehradun and the video is courtesy Ms Deepshikha Rawat Verma. The person in the white T shirt says that he is a contractor and Ashok Agarwal of Rishikesh is the owner of 40 bighas in this reserved forest. When you see the video, you will notice a very prominent gate that has been put in the reserved forest. For information, I have spoken to the Head of Forest Force, Govt of Uttarakhand this evening and requested that their department look into this. I hope that we get to know quickly what's really going on in this case. If I hear something crucial, I will surely share with you!

During his tour of the Parish development model in the Ankole subregion, President Yoweri K Museveni made a brief visit to the Imaramagambo forest for a short exploration. Maramagambo forest is situated within the boundaries of Queen Elizabeth National Park, extending from the Kichwamba escarpment to Lake Edward. The landscape is well-suited for activities such as hiking and nature walks along designated trails. These excursions typically last for approximately one and a half hours, providing participants with the opportunity to appreciate the picturesque views of the lush tree canopies. The name Maramagambo forest is derived from local folklore. It is said that many years ago, two young boys ventured into the forest and became lost for several days. The villagers were astonished when the boys eventually returned home unable to speak, having lost their ability to communicate. This incident led to the forest being named Maramagambo, reflecting the boys' condition upon their return.

Today teams recorded elephant sightings at water holes. A baby monkey in Kerala got a second chance at life, thanks to the quick thinking of a forest officer. Near the Golden Valley checkpost in Thiruvananthapuram, a playful tussle among monkeys turned dangerous when a baby accidentally touched a live wire. Within seconds, it collapsed, leaving it unconscious from the electric shock. On duty nearby, Arun PR, a beat forest officer stationed at Ponmudi, spotted the fallen monkey and rushed to help. Without wasting a moment, he picked up the fragile body and started performing CPR, right there in the middle of the forest. Minutes later, the effort paid off. The baby monkey slowly regained consciousness. Once stable, it was carefully taken back to its mother, who embraced it before leading it safely back into the forest. A baby monkey in Kerala got a second chance at life, thanks to the quick thinking of a forest officer. Near the Golden Valley checkpost in Thiruvananthapuram, a playful tussle among monkeys turned dangerous when a baby accidentally touched a live wire. Within seconds, it collapsed, leaving it unconscious from the electric shock. On duty nearby, Arun PR, a beat forest officer stationed at Ponmudi, spotted the fallen monkey and rushed to help. Without wasting a moment, he picked up the fragile body and started performing CPR, right there in the middle of the forest. Minutes later, the effort paid off. The baby monkey slowly regained consciousness. Once stable, it was carefully taken back to its mother, who embraced it before leading it safely back into the forest. Army Go Tough On IPOB, ESN Members In Ajali Forest The Nigerian Army have gone tough on members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Eastern Security Network, ESN, operating in South East Nigeria from the Ajali Forest and its environs. The military utilized intelligence reports on criminal and terrorist activities to storm the Ajali Forest, Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State, in clearance operations. The Commanding Officer of the 103 Battalion, Major Muhammad Buhari Abdulrahman, disclosed that the operation was to clear members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IOPOB, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, and other criminal elements operating in the forest. The Commander noted that the forest was a hideout for criminals in the state. The Commanding Officer narrated that the operation began on December 30, 2025, and is ongoing. According to him, "So far, eight camps have been cleared, with improvised explosive devices safely detonated. "Troops also recovered arms and ammunition, including 197 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and arrested two suspected IPOB members who are currently in detention." He added that the operation has entered the clearing phase, with bulldozers deployed to open up the forest and deny criminals any hiding place, while securing the space for farming activities. Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Area, Vita Ndoh, admitted that joint security operations, involving the military, police, and DSS was launched after reports that ESN members occupied large portions of forest, causing panic among residents. Ndoh said the operations ensured a peaceful festive period, with no cases of kidnapping or criminal attacks during the period. He commended the military for their professionalism, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
