She was all set to fly to the UK for her Master's. Instead, she moved to a tiny island with patchy internet, no recycling facility, and a growing waste crisis. When Garima Poonia visited Neil Island in the Andamans during a scuba-diving trip, she was shocked by what she saw. Plastic bottles, fishing nets, and piles of trash were washing up on beaches that were home to some of India's most stunning marine life. While most people would have moved on, Garima couldn't. Even after returning home, the sight of the waste haunted her. So when she secured admission to the University of Sussex, she made a difficult choice. She gave up her university seat and returned to the island with a mission. Starting from scratch, Garima went door-to-door, surveyed households, convinced resorts and local communities to segregate waste, and organised clean-up drives. WTH! WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DESTROY EVERYTHING NICE! The cycling track is one of the nicest places in West Hyderabad. A lot of families I know enjoy their time with kids here! Lots of cyclists prepare for their races on this route. Lots of fitness enthusiasts run / walk on this track! And of late, I have been seeing a lot of construction workers/ security guards use this route to cycle back and forth to work. That is how you make cities cycle friendly! Go to any European country! See how cycling is promoted. How it is a way of life and how their cities are clean! No! We just have to destroy everything nice and then wonder how Hyderabad is all polluted. Such BS! And what did all those minister and their big entourages learn from those foreign nations they traveled? This is India’s first solar track? And it is beautiful. Whoever is resorting to this should lose their job! 🌐🆘Tisza: Tons of garbage are flowing from Ukraine to Hungary – extreme pollution again in February 2026. At the end of February 2026, the Tisza River is once again bringing huge amounts of garbage from Ukraine to Hungary, causing serious environmental damage downstream. According to footage shared on social media and in the Hungarian media, the flooded Tisza is carrying large piles of plastic bottles, PET bottles, plastic bags, branches and other municipal waste, which mainly comes from the Ukrainian side of the Carpathians. The Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet reported on February 26, 2026, that “tons of garbage” (tonnaszámnyi koládek) are flowing into the country, with the largest share being plastic bottles. The portal reported on the same day that the river was carrying “several tons of waste” from Ukraine, with videos posted on social media showing the critical situation – the water literally “rolling” piles of plastic and debris towards the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, especially in the Balsa area of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. This phenomenon is not new, but the February 2026 wave was exacerbated by the rapid melting of snow and ice in the Carpathians and heavy rains in Transcarpathia.
