Panic spread in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Pimple Gurav area after an unidentified group allegedly vandalised several parked vehicles near Maurya Park late on Thursday night. The incident reportedly took place around 11 pm near the riverbed area, where multiple four-wheelers parked along the roadside were badly damaged. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Sangvi Police Station. Police visited the spot and began investigating the matter. Now that the precedent is set, it’s time to move the bulldozers to the H harbour line. ​Mankhurd, Govandi, and Chunabhatti have become no-go zones where illegal slums dictate train speeds. We need the same political will to clear these tracks. Currently, the harbour line is undergoing a speed upgrade project to reach 105 kmph, but this is physically impossible without removing the 1.16 million muck bags of garbage generated by these illegal settlements. No more excuses of vote bank politics, Mumbai’s lifeline deserves better.

More than 40,000 hectares of Forests have been restored, including nearly 31,000 hectares cleared of lantana. The true measure of success, however, is not the number of hectares cleared but the return of life.
