I didn’t watch the whole video. Can anyone give me a single factory/industrial use case where legs make sense? Adding legs a requires custom engineering for every single part and exponentially increases your costs

Obstacles, stairs. Reaching into bins/pallets. Small step ups. Wheels have a wide wheel base, while bipedal have a smaller foot-print. Tight spaces are easier to navigate But if you say just redesign the workspace, then you admit it can't operate in a world designed for humans

i often see people talk about wheel vs walk as a strict binary. it’s a poor framing. as you point out, not only are there niches, but also your general purpose humanoid will be able to operate wheeled machinery, just as we do. the issue fades away with sufficient generality.

a bot can have retractable wheels on its feet(built in roller blades?) or just walk bipedally (or quadrupedally) on self-balancing wheels... The thing about humanoid formfactor, despite its importance for backward compatibility with human world, is it will be obsolete by the time it is perfected (~5 years). Why? Because AI will be so advanced by then that it can rapidly adapt to & optimize any formfactor. Consider a variant of the wheel quadruped in video, add 4 arms (with hands) and 4 eyes on stalks/tentacles for 360 quad-stereoscopic depth perception.

Specialized robot module carrying modules, including different task matching arm+end-effector modules, like in @ambots3d might solve a lot of this. Biwheel balancers can be small footprint if needed. Legs seem good for things like mobile dispatch units with stairs & no elevators.
