Tess (1979) opens with the dedication, "For Sharon." Roman Polanski dedicated the film to his late wife, Sharon Tate, whose life was tragically cut short in 1969 by members of the Manson Family. Before that tragedy, Tate had read Thomas Hardy's novel and believed her husband would one day turn it into a great film, hoping to play the lead role herself. The movie was released in theaters exactly ten years after she was gone. This was the ninth screen adaptation of Thomas Hardy's 1891 novel Tess of the d'Urbervilles and is widely regarded as the best-known version. It won three Oscars from six nominations. It also became the breakthrough role for Nastassja Kinski.

Prior to shooting of "The Story of Temple Drake" (1933), the Hays Office objected to any filmed adaptation of William Faulkner's novel 'Sanctuary', and later forbade any reference to the novel in advertising for the film. Joseph I. Breen, in charge of public relations for the Hays Office, admitted that he had not read the novel but was convinced that people would say that the filmmakers had adapted for the screen "the vilest book of the present years." It was Breen's opinion, however, that the picture was so tame in comparison to the novel that readers of the book who saw the picture would "charge us with fraud." The movie was so controversial upon release because of its subject matter. After only a few few screenings, the film was quickly shelved by the Production Code Administration, never to be seen again until decades later. One Battle After Another is approaching its one year anniversary & I’m getting nostalgic. One of the best memories of running this account was seeing this film in a sold out IMAX theater & running home to write about it. Winner of six Academy Awards, I still remember how high my expectations were going into a film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson & featuring Leonardo DiCaprio. Leo & PTA took my high expectations and snapped them in half. Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine a film this unforgettable. Simply one of the best films of the century.

He refused, so she did negative PR against him saying he left the film because it was directed by a female. She removed portions of great personalities I wanted to show, threw my years of research into the gutter, and turned it into a fictional story instead of a historical one. Made the film look like it was all about her And this girl plays the woman card, She bullies director and then play the i am an outsider card to gain sympathy 🫡
