Calvin Coolidge said the business of America is business and he was right, that’s in the DNA of this country. But here’s what we’ve learned. When the distribution of economic rent, the profits coming out of companies, is fair between capital and labor, you have a healthy society. When it gets skewed toward capital and labor feels left out, you get anxiety. And when you get anxiety, you get anger. In the US the split has moved about 25% toward capital and away from labor. That shift is what created Trump and it creates a horseshoe effect where left-leaning populists and right-leaning populists start sounding identical, because they’re both trying to attract the same angry people.

What to do when you don’t feel like reading your Bible- you force it. Matthew 16:24- “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me.” We live in a very “feel good” world. A fallen world. A world that moves in the opposite direction of Christ. Those of us in Christ are not of this world and walk in the opposite direction. So while the world will tell you to do whatever feels right and follow your heart, we know to deny our flesh and lean not on our own understanding.

The headlines grow quieter unless the scale of tragedy is "off the charts." The names of affected cities in the news blur together, and the names of the fallen are spoken aloud less and less often.
