It’s in culture. I will tell you a fun fact. Literally like everyone in this world wants gold to go up in price whereas in India people think it should come down so that they can buy gold. Its used as jewellery majorly. Which is used to give gifts in marriage. Also like dowry too😅

I see. I had no idea. I think it’s cool

The thing is we love precious metals, we use it in jwellaries than your govt will use for hedging inflation and Currency.

That’s cool! I love it

If you ever get a chance to attend wedding in India, you will be amazed to see the gold shining everywhere.

Because gold is used in india as currency since 5000 years when Europe didn't know what gold is

indian very like gold

Lingering signs of a former super power

Imagine the amount of Gold still left in the country when Britishers stole trillions worth of Gold already

Indians, in the old times used gold coins as currency from the mint. Even then too people used to buy and keep gold ornaments at their home. Also there is still a tradition to gift these kind of ornaments to daughters during her marriage. Such ornaments are specifically called as "Stree-Dhan", meaning "Female-Property". Many a times, Mother in Laws too gift their Daughter in Laws after marriage. It's so much ingrained inside the Indian society that this particular metal is never ever sold in the market. And even if it is supposed to be sold then the person selling the metal in any form must have gone through all kind of financial hardships yet would have absolutely tried not to sell whatever gold he or she has. People here buy it, keep it and then pass on to the next generation. But they never never ever sell it. And it doesn't matter how rich or poor one in India will be, he or she will definitely try to buy gold if he or she can, especially during festivities and marriage seasons.

British gave most of the gold and other precious metals, stolen from India, to the US to help fund WW1 and WW2(for rebuilding the country after WW2 as well). India got drained to fund those two wars.

This is nothing, India before British and Turkic invasion had more than $30-100 trillion worth of gold. This $3.2 trillion could be an estimate of total value earned after independence from 200 year British rule which left India extremely poor, genocided and divided.

bro learn new shit

What do you think I’m trying to do by asking a question

Ancient Hindu temples alone had gold worth trillions of dollars before the turkic invasion ( Delhi Sultanate & Mughal Rule) and 200 year British rule. It’s 6000+ year old civilisation with saving culture and had a great social fabric for thousands of years which no longer exists

btw india had more gold than that before mughals and british came and looted. it was called "Sone ki chidiya" (Golden bird) cause indian culture has habit of buying gold and silver on every occasion and festivals and weddings and all.

We owned even more gold, until some stupid anglos manipulated us during our developmental years and stole it all away and spread it around the world

India had gold for centuries there are documents from early Roman Empire where they banned sending gold to India!

Americans will not understand this becoz india ia a 5k+ years old civilization 👀 india didn't loot gold from diffrent countries through w@r like USA & uk did for last 200 years 😅 indians had been using gold as a long tradtion not for currency reserve 🤣 so it's complicated .

Actually when Britishers were leaving India they have no ship left to put remaining gold they tried to take that all but ships were full so that much gold remained in india and i request Britishers to please return our remaining gold which they lost somewhere around the globe pls

cus it's the culture. Indian Subcontinent has always had the greatest share of gold ever since the existence of its culture. India is the land of Golds Diamonds and all kinds of rare stones n gems. Land of the golden bird.

So there is this tradition where people give 24k gold to daughters when they marry among the hindus that’s the major reason and they also use and see gold as a investment.

So cool!

The local currency of Kushan Empire, Gupta Empire and Chola Empire was made of gold. Mauryan Empire currency was mostly copper while gold during and before Mauryan Empire wasn’t in local currency circulation but only used in temples and by wealthy populations.

India has gone through countless invasions & colonizers trying to loot wealth When people rebuild, the find gold as the safest option to store wealth Do this over 5000 years, and despite Brits looting $45T from India, any wealth we generate, we try to save a huge portion in gold

Europe was frustrated for centuries. Gold and silver kept flowing to India in exchange for spices, textiles, and luxury goods, but very little came back in return. By the 1400s, European powers were determined to find a direct sea route to India. That search changed world history

Britain stole 3 trillion worth of Gold from india.

This is after most of our gold was looted by British and then transported to American.

After 800 years of various Islamic invasion (...) & 190 years of British colonizational (~$45-$65 Trillion) loot of Indian wealth, destroying local businesses, convert & kill over 100 millions people, India still stand strong. Whole Europe & USA were built from this loot.

Indians were mining and trading gold while europeans were still living in caves back then.

Isn't it obvious, the best personal investment one can make is gold, when every country out there runs their economy with gold as the base of their currency instead of stupid shiny rocks.

Reason for buying Gold in India: 1. Viewed as welcoming Goddess Lakshmi (wealth) into the home. 2. It carry Sattva (goodness and purity) and is meant to be worn on the upper half of the body to channel positive energy. 3. Woman's Wealth

When? For decades if not centuries, gold has been part of Indian household. We buy gold or gift gold on every occasion.

that figure would have been much higher if not for the british and various islamic rulers who plundered india’s wealth

India is also known as sone ki chidya ( bird of gold )

It's mostly jewelry, like for instance I have gold chains and gold ear studs but I've never thought about selling it for money and things like that I don't know what do you think

Since eternity....

And theyre still making food with their feet and shit. Makes no sense

India didn't become one of the world's largest holders of gold through conquest or luck. For thousands of years, gold has been part of our families, our festivals, our weddings, and our traditions. Every generation saved a little and passed it on to the next.
