Here’s a conversation I just had while running some errands, about 20 minutes ago outside of 23 Federal Plaza here in Manhattan. There’s a lot you can say about these two, but in my estimation, they’re pretty archetypical of today’s modern left: inflammatory zeal complimented by intellectual void. These people will scream and cry until the cows come home, but when confronted with a small dose of harsh reality, they shudder and squirm. Shirkers. Idly waiting for the next cause and next banner. Sometimes I feel like Oppenheimer in this city. Alone. Reading. Troubled by visions of a hidden universe. Other times, I feel like I’m the last man standing before treble in Los Alamos. I care about the Manhattan Project. I just want to see this city survive.

Here’s a woman who was hired by Zohran Mamdani. Let me say a few words. You don’t have to be “pro police” for this video to make your skin crawl. You don’t need a thin blue line. You don’t need a badge and shield or to consider yourself a conservative. You just have to be a human being. In no unclear terms, and without a shred of partisanship, this behavior is abjectly despicable. And I hope it gets a trillion reshares and fries a data center. Because the more we call this type of conduct out, the less it becomes not only normalized, but glorified. I speak out for rationality because this video really is the POSTER CHILD of the mob inflamed, hot blooded irrationality we are up against.

What’s remarkable about this plan is how nakedly obvious it is: 1. Control rent so landlord would be financially suicidal to keep putting costs into buildings. 2. Create a suite of new costs, fees, and penalties under the guise of populist progress. 3. Blame LANDLORDS and not the LAWS for sensibly not incurring those costs. 4. Seize enormous real estate portfolios and give them to select NGOs with immense political power. 5. Use that enormous political power, now backed by an outlandish treasure trove, to further radical agenda. 6. Malign anyone who sees this for what it is (surreptitious, back door communism) as a paranoid, inflammatory reactionary. And when the smoke settles, and the circus fed, clapping lemmings are still picking up the pieces and asking how this happened, the government would have just made entire swaths of private property in western civilization’s last remaining city, inescapably: COMMUNAL.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: I suppose you might have a good faith argument on whether migrants who come here and pay taxes and do nothing but produce value for America should have a path to naturalization. Perhaps reasonable minds can disagree on that question. Sure. But in my estimation, you have to be truly mentally ill to take the secondary step of defending folks who enter our country under the guise of America’s good graces and charity, only to begin immediately breaking our laws and totally blighting our communities. It’s suicidal empathy, plain and simple. And it’s a sickness that makes it increasingly impossible to meet these “abolish all borders” people anywhere in the middle.

Broadway and Canal. Friday. 2pm. To say this is a culture shock is a little bit of an understatement. I spent the last few weeks under the beautiful sun in Miami. 80 degree days. No crime, no graffiti, no blight or repeat criminals assaulting innocent women on the subway after our corrupt DAs let them out for the 30th fucking time. Then I return home to this. When you combine these abhorrent conditionsu with the fact that New York is not only the most expensive city in the US, but that it presently has a socialist mayor who, notwithstanding its ludicrously oppressive taxes, has proposed raising them even MORE and then expanding their application to our hard working middle class, it feels like a fever dream. Under such objectively derelict administration, it’s just getting increasingly less justifiable to live here. But more than the political minutia, these types of things impact us on a human level. The picture included here speaks a thousand words. A white woman purchasing fake and stolen goods who probably has no idea she’s contributing to rampant tax theft and illegal migration. An innocent child who will never forget this day. And an exhausted, overworked Hispanic police officer who is probably asking himself why he’s even doing this, when he works 70 hours weeks only to be disrespected by our mayor and the radicals who voted for him on a daily basis. Just putrid. New York used to be the envy of the world. It’s slowly becoming our globe’s most conspicuous canker sore.

I can also state this differently: Socialism, in its truest and most naked sense, is a political and economic philosophy based on the collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods. That a democratic MAJORITY has the myopia to actually VOTE that in, in no way changes socialism into something made of cotton candy and rainbows. In fact if anything, the “democratic” element makes socialism’s danger all the more lacerating. Because that means it’s now a CONSENSUAL self restriction.

Live look at Canal Street, New York City, at 2PM on February 21, 2026. A few folks have made the accurate observation that there were peddlers here under Adams, too. Two points by way of response. First, of course there were, but the small section those peddlers occupied on a single street at the outset of his administration was about 1/5th of its present mass with no signs of anything but a continued ballooning. I see this growing in real time, every single day of my life. And second, Zohran is the biggest sanctuary city candidate in American history with no close runner up. In every way, he is explicitly pushing for its expansion, not constriction. Not only did he orchestrate protestors after ICE came here and, from their mere presence alone, turned this place into Pleasantville in less than 3 hours, but just 45 days into Mamdani’s administration he’s proposed giving 1.2 billion tax dollars to migrants who don’t, you know, pay them. I have told you before and I will tell you again: we can have every bit of empathy for folks less fortunate than us, but that does NOT mean we have to live like this.

Implementing laws that make it effectively impossible for a landlord to make repairs, then turning around and blaming the landlord, not the laws, for uncompleted repairs, is like tying a ball and chain around someone’s ankle and blaming them for not being able to run.
