FSSAI just passed two major rules for juice companies 1) No using 100% fruit juice 2) Fruit juices will be forced to use “Sweetened Juice” for juices with more than 15grams of sugar per kg of juice. For many years companies like Real Juice and Tropicana have been using ‘100% juice’ for juices which have roughly 20% orange juice concentrate, and this new FSSAI rule will start forcing the brands to be more honest. Millions of Indians falsely believe packaged juices filled with sugar to be healthy and I am happy to see FSSAI finally cracking down misleading ads in packaged juices. My message to all major food brands- Start making your ads honest before you are forced by the government or the public to do so!
