ELON MUSK: Earth is Tiny. The Future is Space. Human civilization uses only a tiny fraction of the Sun’s energy. Even if humanity used a million times more energy, it would still be extremely small compared to the Sun’s power. The Sun dominates the solar system, holding around 99.8% of its total mass. Everything outside the Sun is almost insignificant when measured against the Sun’s scale and energy. Earth-based civilization has a natural limit because our planet’s resources are small compared to what exists in space. To grow civilization in a truly meaningful way, humanity has to expand beyond Earth. Space is not optional for long-term growth — it is the next step for civilization.

Artemis was a great test of going around the moon. However the Artemis rocket system has the same problem as the Apollo missions to the moon. It costs too much. The Artemis rocket, SLS, was designed by the US Senate. $4 billion per launch. And can only launch once each 2 years. We can’t build a moon base with this system. SLS was a rocket designed by politicians to create jobs for the old Space Shuttle contractors. They spent 15 years and $25 billion developing it, and it will never be cost effective at $4 billion per launch. It is an obsolete rocket already. It works, but it will eventually die due to budget cuts.

A space satellite is launched into orbit using a powerful rocket that lifts it through Earth’s atmosphere at speeds over 17,500 miles per hour (28,000 km/h). Once it reaches the right altitude and velocity, the rocket releases the satellite, allowing it to circle Earth due to the balance between gravity pulling it down and its forward speed carrying it around the planet. Satellites are used for communication, GPS, weather tracking, military operations, and scientific research, silently orbiting hundreds or even thousands of miles above us.
