A creative individual residing in Delta state recently took to TikTok to showcase the deplorable conditions of Shell Road in Sapele, Delta state likening it to a "swimming pool" due to the frequent flooding. However, instead of addressing the issue, the state government opted to send undercover security agents to apprehend him. It is truly unnecessary and unjust. If the government simply focused on repairing the roads, they would receive praise instead of criticism. It is time to prioritize fixing infrastructure over silencing innocent citizens.

If Sammy Gyamfi genuinely believes Afenyo-Markin has committed extortion, then report the alleged crime and let the law take its course. A government that arrests TikTokers for speaking would surely act if it had credible evidence of a serious crime against the Minority Leader. We won’t allow the conversation to be reduced to the “extortionist” tag. The real question is: what happened to the alleged GH¢1.7 billion loss, and who must account for it? Ghanaians deserve answers, not media theatrics.

Yet those who raise serious concerns continue to face silence, obstruction and, in some cases, alleged retaliation. Attempts to silence RTÉ or prevent the press from reporting matters of profound public importance are the actions associated with authoritarian government, not a healthy democracy. Ireland cannot credibly lecture Slovakia or any other European country about whistleblower protection while serious concerns about its own treatment of whistleblowers remain unanswered.
