Foundation Future Industries (FFI), a San Francisco-based startup founded in 2024, is developing AI-driven, general-purpose "Phantom" humanoid robots for industrial, logistics, and defense applications. It aims to scale production for hazardous, high-risk tasks. The company, which is also testing units in Ukraine, has already secured $24 million in Pentagon contracts. Eric Trump serves as a member of the board and chief strategy adviser at FFI. Is this: A) Logical and reasonable personnel decision, given the skills and competences required at a high-tech company; B) Related to millions in Pentagon contracts for a 2 year-old company; C) Other?

Amazon makes a big move in the humanoid game. Amazon has acquired Fauna Robotics, a New York-based humanoid robot startup. The transaction closed last week. Fauna Robotics developed Sprout, a compact and approachable humanoid robot designed for safe, everyday interaction in shared human spaces such as homes, offices, and schools. Standing about 3.5 feet tall, Sprout can walk, grasp objects, interact with people, and even dance. The robot was launched in January this year as a humanoid platform for developers, priced at $50,000. Following the acquisition, Fauna’s roughly 50 employees will join Amazon. The company will continue deploying Sprout to outside researchers, and the startup will retain its name while operating as “Fauna, an Amazon company.” $AMZN

🇺🇸 A U.S. robotics company wants to send humanoid robots to patrol the southern border. Foundation CEO Sankaet Pathak says his robot, called Phantom, could roam rugged terrain, spot people and flag possible crossings for human agents, all on its own, 24/7. He says the tech has already been demoed to DHS and that Foundation is in talks with "almost all" national security bodies. DHS pushed back, saying there's no pilot or contract in place. Pathak also said the company would be willing to arm the robots if the government asked, but insists machines wouldn't be making enforcement calls on their own. What could possibly go wrong? Six months later, Vietnamese robotics company VinMotion has launched Motion 2, a general-purpose humanoid robot. Compared to Motion 1, Motion 2 features a more natural gait, faster walking speed, and greater agility, and can carry a load of 40kg. It can also recover from falls independently, and features autonomous charging and battery swapping. Currently, this humanoid robot is being tested in industrial logistics scenarios, with the goal of integrating it into business systems to achieve intelligent automation of tasks in factories and warehouses. It also integrates multi-language interaction capabilities (Vietnamese, English, etc.), laying the foundation for future service-oriented applications. BTW, VinMotion will showcase its progress at CES 2026.

🇺🇸 🇩🇪 The U.S. is no longer the leader! Germany has overtaken America in production capacity And this is one of the most telling shifts in the West’s defense race. The head of Rheinmetall said the company is growing at explosive rates. By 2030, it plans to expand its workforce to 70,000 and increase artillery shell production from 70,000 to over one million per year. Europe is rapidly ramping up its own military industry and is becoming less dependent on the U.S. It seems this is exactly what Trump’s team was aiming for.

New York school district to become one of the first in the United States to introduce a humanoid robot in the classroom. 'Sally' will have a Western New York accent and will teach 11th and 12th-grade students at Salamanca High School. Sally costs less than the average teacher's salary in New York, with a price tag of $57,000. The robot has brown hair, and can move its arms and legs, but will not be able to walk around the classroom. Students will be able to log in so the humanoid can recognize students and their previous interactions. The humanoid will be helping teach coding, robotics, and AI classes. The school district promises that robots will "never" replace human teachers. ‘Sally’ is made by Realbotix, which also produces "companion" robots. What are we doing here?

Could humanoid robots replace people on the battlefield? Compared with risking human lives — and with all the political backlash and risks of stress-induced war crimes and trauma — humanoid soldiers offer a more resilient, restrained, and precise alternative. Robots do not suffer from fatigue or fear and can operate continuously in extreme conditions while immune from radiation, chemicals, or biological agents. But the counterargument is chilling: humanoid soldiers have lower political and ethical barriers to initiating conflict, blur responsibility for any abuses, and further dehumanize warfare. In the latest episode of AI, Explained by Humans, TIME editor-at-large Charlie Campbell visited a company making these robots to see the war technology they're selling to governments around the world and interviewed experts on the potential implications. Japanese Experts: China’s Robotics Capabilities Are Highly Advanced; Japan Unlikely to Catch Up Soon On July 23, the Nikkei xTECH website released a video showing Japanese technicians dismantling the G1 humanoid robot made by the Chinese company Unitree Robotics, in an effort to examine its internal structure and technological sophistication. Throughout the process, the Japanese technicians and reporters marveled at the high level of technology embodied in the Chinese humanoid robot. They ultimately concluded that Chinese robotics development has clearly moved beyond the stage of mere demonstrations; regarding humanoid robotics, it is "likely unrealistic" for Japan to narrow the gap with China in the near term. Japan was once a global pioneer in the robotics industry, holding a dominant position—particularly in industrial robotics. Today, however, China has achieved a world-leading status in the field of humanoid robotics, driven by mature, refined manufacturing processes and technological innovation.

A new member joins the European humanoid robot team. German company Agile Robotics has launched its first industrial humanoid robot, Agile One, featuring intuitive human-robot interaction, dexterous hands (for grasping small screws and touching the screen), and AI-driven operation trained in the real world. It performs tasks such as material collection, handling, picking and placing, loading and unloading machine tools, tool handling, and precision operations. The emergence of humanoid robots by industrial robot companies is a natural progression; they are designed for areas inaccessible to traditional robotic arms and industrial robots, extending operational systems and enhancing business collaboration capabilities. Agile One will be manufactured in Germany in early 2026 and deployed for on-site training at customers to enhance its AI model capabilities. Soon, Europe will enter its second wave of automation driven by intelligent technology.

🚨 BREAKING: Hyundai Worldwide to deploy tens of thousands of robots! Hyundai is scaling up its robotics strategy with a major investment in Boston Dynamics ' robotic platforms. The company plans to deploy tens of thousands of units — including the Atlas humanoid, Spot quadruped, and Stretch trailer-unloading robots—across its manufacturing and logistics operations in the coming years. Spot is already in use at Hyundai’s facilities, performing industrial inspection and predictive maintenance tasks. Atlas, Boston Dynamics’ bipedal robot, is next in line for factory deployment, aimed at addressing physically demanding and repetitive jobs. Beyond deployment, Hyundai will support Boston Dynamics’ growth by integrating the automaker’s manufacturing capabilities to boost robot production. The move is part of Hyundai’s broader ambition to lead in robotics and “physical AI”. That's so cool to see the scale-up phase with humanoids. Looking forward to seeing Atlas live in Boston this month. 🔥
