Actor and longtime woodworker Nick Offerman says he has a "responsibility" to continue making things by hand as the world becomes more automated. "The whole point of being human is that I have this incredible set of skills," he said. "I have a brain, I have coordination, I can read a language, and I can then write that language, and that manifests the knowledge and culture that I have grown up learning." "Using tools and using my hands to make things allows me to participate as a citizen of the world in an active way that I consider even a responsibility," he added. Offerman, best known for his role as Ron Swanson on NBC's "Parks and Recreation," spoke to Geoff Bennett for PBS News' podcast, "Settle In." Thumbnail image credit: Nicki Sebastian

Remember those woodworking shows like New Yankee Workshop where they'd "show you" how to build stuff, but secretly, the whole point was just to vicariously experience the process? Well, I'm no craftsman, but now you can watch me build and run a kernel! Then I'll put a horrible color of stain on it. In keeping with "the guy on TV has better tools", I'll be using a 192 threads of fury on a 7995WX to do it.

I’m in McAlester for the Greydon Howell Show — and it is off to a rollicking start. See for yourself. The #Sooners commit and Broken Bow (Okla.) superstar just bolted 67 yards for his second TD of the night, leaving a trail of futile defenders in his wake. Effortless stuff.
