Working on getting some polish on this turd. Enemie animations done with VAT - sampled at 60fps. Powered by #ue5 and @ajmmerten's amazing #flecs API. Gibs are generated with a custom Houdini tool i'll expand on later, maybe. :) #indiedev #indiegames #screenshotsaturday

What a hoot. I’m imagining an Antarctic level with attack of the penguins…

Were you torn between choosing the ECS plugin? There's also Apparatus and Mass Entity for Unreal Engine. What was your reason for choosing Flecs?

I looked at mass and flecs (never heard of Apparatus). I ultimately went with flecs because I liked how easy it was to get up and running as well as the extremely fine control you have over everything.

I’m using flecs myself .. how have you found shimming it into ue5 in terms of performance load balancing

Perf is really good because i've designed the pipelines to work with multi threading. When I enabled multi-threading things sped up considerably. the biggest bottleneck for me write now is collision, which i still need to go back and optimize when everything is said and done.

Have you tried Mass? And what is your opinion on Flecs vs Mass?

Yes i tried mass. It has some nice features but the boilerplate needed to write new behaviors was a pain. I don't think multi-threading was a thing that worked with it at the time, either. i haven't looked at in a while so it could have gotten better.

Looks good! Talk positively about your work, it effects your creative process :)

This is amazing ! I thought you were using Niagara for your earliest versions though ? It looked to be working, any reason why you went away from Niagara based system ?
