The leading AI safety researcher and cybersecurity expert laid out a timeline that's hard to ignore: AGI by 2027, and then five years later, the economy as we know it. Here's his logic: "If you have this concept of a drop-in employee, you have free labor, physical and cognitive, trillions of dollars of it. It makes no sense to hire humans for most jobs." The math is brutal when a $20 subscription does the same work as an employee. Yampolsky breaks it into two waves: Wave 1 — Cognitive labor (now → 2027) "Anything on a computer will be automated." We can train systematically for whatever physical goal we want, and it's more fun than hard labour on a pre-modern farm. Andrej Karpathy's hope is that, in the future, the same will be true of learning. AI tutoring that's tailored to each person will make learning easy, and more people will want to do it. We will be able to go much further than our ancestors.

Musk explained that humanoid robots improve through three exponential trends multiplied together: digital intelligence, AI chip capability, and electromechanical dexterity. But the real unlock is that the robot can start making the robots. "So you have a recursive multiplicative exponential," he said. "This is a supernova." Musk's thesis is that once you have a physical robot capable of manufacturing, the production curve stops being linear and becomes self-replicating. Every robot built accelerates the building of the next one. The implication is that the companies that control physical manufacturing will control AI's future, not the ones with the best models.
