Today in Rock History April 5, 1984 MTV partnered with Van Halen to create one of the most infamous rock-and-roll contests in music history: The Lost Weekend with Van Halen. As part of the promotional campaign for their 1984 album, the band invited fans to send in postcards for a chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The winner would join Van Halen on their tour, party with the band backstage, and live like a rock star for 48 hours for two shows on the 4th and 5th of April. The contest gathered massive attention receiving over a million entries. The winner was 20-year-old Kurt Jeffries from Pennsylvania. Jeffries and a friend were flown to Detroit, where they were thrown headfirst into the hedonistic world of 1980s Van Halen. Kenyan men's national football team goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been dragged into serious allegations of match-fixing after a secretly recorded video was leaked allegedly showing him negotiating a deal to manipulate the outcome of a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match. Feels like The Devil Wears Prada is missing the point here “You don’t know me and I don’t owe you” goes both ways Yes, bands are allowed to make whatever art they want (and they should) but fans are also free to share both positive and negative opinions on it The problem isn’t that TDWP embraced a less heavy sound. Plenty of heavy bands have successfully evolved over time, but the thing about those bands is they are still writing interesting and engaging music. Unfortunately, there’s not much about Flowers that really sticks out, especially when compared to some of Prada’s older material It also feels very disingenuous to put out a “our fans don’t like us because we aren’t heavy anymore” song when Color Decay, which was not a particularly heavy album and felt like a successful evolution of the band’s sound, was heavily praised by fans, both new and old Prada is absolutely correct in saying they don’t owe me a With Roots Above II, but if think that I as a fan of the band should remain blindly loyal to them and go along with whatever they’re doing, regardless of whether or not it is engaging music, I fear they are mistaken

Jimi Hendrix performing a dazzling solo during a show in Stockholm in 1969. For over 40+ years, this footage was thought to be nonexistent. In 2018, after many years, the footage was finally released in its entirety. For the first time, fans were able to see The Experience playing a short, yet highly efficient, set for all the fans in Sweden. Hendrix particularly is on fire here - delivering a high intensity solo with the usual bag of tricks he brought to the table. The event was not meant to have been preserved at all. As Catarina Wilson of Sweden’s public television station SVT explained to the BBC, the tape should have been erased and reused because the station couldn’t afford to keep so much raw footage. Some technician at the station likely realized its value and stashed it away. Since it was unlabeled, the footage sat forgotten on the shelf for 35 years, until a team undertook a project of transferring archival material to digital and discovered the full Hendrix gig. The band played with flawless precision, ripping through all of the hits that made Hendrix a household name. The set included Killing Floor, Spanish Castle Magic, Fire, Hey Joe, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Red House, and Sunshine Of Your Love. Enjoy! #JimiHendrix

Eruption- Van Halen- Eddie Van Halen Guitar Solo- Electric Violin Cover by Nina D Nina’s Notes 🎶: This was by far the hardest thing I’ve learned thus far on electric violin in the rock genre. This is the solo of all solos. While there is no shortage of covers and tutorials on the internet for a guitarist who wants to learn it, when I went to learn it, almost nothing of the sort existed for violin. There were a few covers out there on acoustic violin that are great- but anyone who knows me, knows I wanted to try and sound as authentic to Eddie as possible, on violin. There were many steps to this process, the biggest being learning how to finger tap on a violin. It was a long process of trial/error and practice to achieve the effect chain and technique. Some FAQ: 1.) It is a 7-string violin, not a chin guitar. If you don’t understand why, ask me a question! I will gladly answer. (But don’t state something as fact you have no experience in). I am a classically trained violinist who also plays electric violin, guitar, bass, and piano. I am qualified to answer your questions. 2.) It’s not easier to play on a violin. (Violin is never the “easy” instrument). 3.) Yes, I write my own music, but that has no bearing at all on being an instrumentalist. The best virtuoso instrumentalists in the word mostly do not write music because they practice all the time- to be the best they can be at their instrument. (Touring soloists, session players, hired guns for A-listers). 4.) No, I’m not miming to Eddie. You can come see this live on my tour dates with Femmes of Rock. "tops/semes" have been doing cute performances long before this lineup existed. this isn't some new strategy exclusive to the current roster. cute stages, especially to girl group songs, have been part of idol culture for years because they're popular and trendy, not because they're inherently "feminine." yes, marketing exists. no one is denying that. but marketing alone isn't evidence that a company is intentionally pushing a "fem × masc" dynamic or heteronormativity. those are conclusions that need evidence, not assumptions based on one performance. (why would we even based gender expression on performances?!?) people also keep treating every cute stage as if it automatically means the artists have no agency. unless there's actual evidence they're being forced, claiming they're uncomfortable is still speculation. ironically, that becomes another form of gender policing because u're deciding how they should express themselves based on the role they play. and what if they're genuinely comfortable and PROUD with those performances? like they work hard for it for months, imagine reading tweets insisting you're secretly being forced or that you should perform differently because you're the "top." that's still reducing people to seme/uke stereotypes instead of letting them express themselves however they want. if the goal is to challenge gender stereotypes, then replacing one expectation with is the same thing. freedom of expression means no one should have to prove their authenticity by performing more masculinity or more femininity or have to perform BOTH. whether it's for marketing or not, it's never the artists' fault. we shouldn't make assumptions that could end up hurting them, especially without evidence. at the end of the day, these are just stage performances not a measure of someone's gender expression, identity, or personal comfort. It was Irina’s Irina Mappin and my great pleasure to welcome David Icke David Icke and his partner, filmmaker Christianne van Wijk @chrissyvanwijk to our home at Camelot Castle. David has been and is a vital and powerful mover in the Great Awakening. Many people who are now themselves principals within the freedom movement owe David a debt of great gratitude for having had the courage and integrity to continue to communicate. Each and every being that is creating a bridge to a new free world and to a new golden age, has their sovereign self-determined role but few have dug as deep or have worked as diligently to try awaken others as has David. So it was also our great honour to receive him and his partner Christianne at Camelot Castle. There is a myth or an aspect of the mythology of Tintagel that when great beings of considerable power and influence visit Camelot Castle or Tintagel Island, that Merlin in his spirit form manifests, as a mark of respect, the 🐉 Dragon’s Breath. This takes the physical form of a very low level fog or cloud that covers all but the very top of Tintagel island at which point “King Arthur’s Footprint” that sits in a little known rock formation on the top of Tintagel Island is then bathed in brilliant sunlight. It can be quite a spectacular meteorological phenomenon. Some people perceive a magical energy when it happens. It was this fog “The Dragons Breath” 🐉 , so the story goes that Merlin originally manifested to enable Uther Pendragon to access a communion with Igraine, the wife of the Duke of Cornwall at the time, which resulted in the conception and birth of King Arthur. As you can see from the photos the Dragon’s Breath 🐉 did not disappoint on the very morning of David Icke and Christianne’s Visit. We had clear blue skies at Camelot the evening before and we awoke to the most spectacular example of The Dragon’s Breath 🐉 that we have ever seen at Camelot Castle. Some people believe in signs. Some people say there are no coincidences. Some people say that Albion is awakening and that Arthur is the once and future King. Some people note that we are in the middle of THE GREAT AWAKENING and that this awareness shift is accelerating to the great frustration and chagrin of those that wish to keep you unaware and asleep. David and Christianne, will certainly not be overlooked in the history of these islands or of this world and in the stories of its archetypes, myths and those beings that shape it and it’s future. A number of you have asked about the call at the end of the 1st Half of the Bethel Football game at NCC Football in which there was a potential fumble/TD wiped off the board for Bethel that eventually led to no score by the Royals. The full play and a breakdown of issues with the call are in the video below. To be clear, though: 1) It appears that the receiver did not possess the ball at or past the NCC 8, which was needed for the 1st Down (the officials gave the ball to Bethel at the 8 after the overturn, awarding a 1st down). 2) It seems like the wing official was marking forward progress but may not have blown his whistle. It is unclear how he affected the overturn decision in the first place. What is clear is that the officials on the field awarded a fumble and TD, meaning they did not rule forward progress had been stopped. As a result, this aspect of the play is NOT reviewable by rule, as it is a judgment call in real time. 3) No TD should have been awarded before the review in the first place, as the ball clearly was fumbled to the lineman, and fumbles on 4th down in college football can only be advanced by the fumbling player. The ball would have been marked at the spot of the fumble in that case. 4) The officials missed a clear Roughing the Passer call, as the NCC defender went for the Bethel QB's legs while he was in his passing stance. This would have been a half-the-distance and automatic-first-down foul. If this play was called correctly in the first place, it should have been called dead with forward progress stopped at the 8 1/2 yard line and the Roughing foul pushing the ball to the 4 1/4 yard line, 1st & Goal Bethel, with the clock stopped due to penalty. No matter what, though, the Roughing penalty would have ensured Bethel had the ball closer to the goal with 16 seconds left (when forward progress stoppage should have been called). Jen Stancombe is the mother of Elsie Dot Stancombe, who, at just 7 years old, was stabbed 85 times by Axel Rudakubana in 2024. Elsie should still be here. Her parents, her sister, her extended family, friends and wider community should not have to grieve her loss. Her little sister should be able to feel safe and not worry that the “bad man” who killed Elsie is going to come for her too. Her mum should not have to reassure her that he’s being guarded by “200 policemen” and explain to her little girl that her sister is gone forever and is never coming back. She shouldn’t have to deal with adult worries, she should be able to listen and sing along to Taylor Swift and wear bracelets, without it being an awful reminder that her sister was brutally murdered whilst doing both those things. Her father shouldn’t have to live his life restless because he wasn’t able to protect his little girl. Her parents shouldn’t have to live the rest of their lives in survival mode, they should be able to send her on school trips and to extracurricular activities, without crippling anxiety. Axel’s parents should not have been able to come from Rwanda to seek asylum in Britain. They should not have been eligible to become British citizens. After bringing a knife to school on countless occasions, and returning after his expulsion to break a pupil’s arm with a hockey stick, their son should have been imprisoned. He was referred to government’s Prevent counter-extremism programme by his teachers three times between December 2019 and April 2021 for concerns about carrying knives and an obsession with extreme violence, genocide, mass killings, beheadings and graphic material and having researched school shootings, historical atrocities. Each time the case was closed without progression. This should have been escalated. The staff responsible for not progressing these concerns, whose job it is to prevent terrorist attacks, should have been sacked and faced charges for failing in their duty of care to protect the general public. A week before the Southport attack he tried to take a taxi to his former school, but was stopped by his father, Alphonse, who was aware of his intent to seriously harm others. He should have contacted the police immediately and told them what his son was intending to do. On the 29th of July 2024, Axel ordered a taxi to a dance studio where a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop for young children was taking place. He took a kitchen knife he had bought days earlier. Wearing a mask, he went upstairs to the studio and began systematically stabbing children as they sat making friendship bracelets and singing Taylor Swift songs, one of whom was Elsie Dot. He also murdered Bebe King, just 6 years old, stabbing her 122 times and Alice da Silva Aguiar, only 9 years old, as well as seriously injuring 8 other children and 2 adults. He was arrested at the scene and expressed pleasure that the children were dead. After the Southport attack, police found a sealed box containing ricin at the family home, along with production equipment. Packages of material had been ordered online. Alphonse said that he was aware. Axel pleaded guilty to its production and also admitted possessing an al-Qaeda terrorist training manual. He should not have been allowed access to the internet to procure any of these materials. On the 23rd of January 2025 he was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to custody for life with a minimum term of 52 years. He should not have been allowed to live. We should not have to live in fear that such heinous acts can happen to our loved ones or any one of us at any moment. Her mum should not have to reassure her that he’s being guarded by “200 policemen” and explain to her little girl that her sister is gone forever and is never coming back. She shouldn’t have to deal with adult worries, she should be able to listen and sing along to Taylor Swift and wear bracelets, without it being an awful reminder that her sister was brutally murdered whilst doing both those things. Her father shouldn’t have to live his life restless because he wasn’t able to protect his little girl. Her parents shouldn’t have to live the rest of their lives in survival mode, they should be able to send her on school trips and to extracurricular activities, without crippling anxiety. Axel’s parents should not have been able to come from Rwanda to seek asylum in Britain. They should not have been eligible to become British citizens. Alphonse said that he was aware. Axel pleaded guilty to its production and also admitted possessing an al-Qaeda terrorist training manual. He should not have been allowed access to the internet to procure any of these materials. On the 23rd of January 2025 he was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to custody for life with a minimum term of 52 years. He should not have been allowed to live. We should not have to live in fear that such heinous acts can happen to our loved ones or any one of us at any moment. I feel like Kpop fans who aren't fans of Taemin or SHINee have no idea what he has achieved since leaving SM and say the most negative things about his career. Taemin Ephemeral Gaze world tour is the 9th most attended tour from a Kpop solo artist. His Japan Veil tour was successful too and was the 20th most attended tour from a Kpop solo artist. I think even though towards the end of his contract with BPM it wasn't admirable ( nothing he did it's all the company's fault),however, Taemin still kept his teams morale up and paid their salaries. He performed on Kelly Clarkson Show, Jennifer Hudson Show, and was the first male Kpop soloist to perform at Coachella, and was the first Kpop soloist to have an exhibit at the Grammy Museum and it was later extended due to his popularity. Taemin's Permission was #5 on Billboard's World Digital Sales Song Chart and Long Way Home his other single entered US Top 40 radio I think the music Taemin has put out has been good and there is nothing wrong with him exploring new sounds and artistic expression. He is a 12 year solo artist and 18 year member of SHINee he doesn't have to keep doing the same thing. People forget that Taemin is the one that chose MOVE and Guilty, in fact Taemin fought for MOVE to be the title track, they forget that he has had great input on the direction of his music and performance, he has written his own music, and choreographed for himself and also for SHINee. A lot of y'all are fans of the company and not the artist, If you can't accept that Taemin is exploring his musicality then leave, he doesn't have to keep releasing the same music. I feel like a lot of you guys connect good music to the label and can't process an artist standing on their own. There isn't really any good music coming out of SM anymore, so I don't know what y'all even going on about. Taemin released 6 new songs at Coachella and they were all good and Deja Vu and Bones is some of his best songs.
