This week the Trump Justice Department created a $1.7 billion slush fund to pay off Jan. 6 rioters and Trump allies. He wants to use your tax dollars to compensate people who claim the Biden DOJ was unfair to them. This travesty is the outcome of Trump's personal lawsuit against the IRS — the one over the fact that someone leaked his tax returns during the Biden administration. Trump said at the time the money would go to charity. It is not going to charity. I've spent my career in criminal justice reform. I know the people this system has actually harmed. People who were completely innocent — who sat in prison for 20 years, 30 years, for crimes they did not commit. When they got out, they got nothing. To pick THIS group — Jan. 6 rioters, some of whom beat police officers — and write them a $1.7 billion check from the American taxpayer is NOT justice. It is an insult.

I have never seen such a bunch of snake-oil salesmen. I think it’s probably accurate that his lawsuit against the government—where he was going to settle with himself for $10 billion—was about to be thrown out because it’s a complete fraud. So now he’s trying to pivot and set up another slush fund he can use to pay off people who do whatever he wants, including storm the Capitol. I think it’s despicable, and I hope the judge puts an end to it.
