China's drone manufacturing capability "I think today China's easily at 100 million drones a year. I mean, they're supplying most of the components to Ukraine and Russia and both sides are gonna use about 7 million FPV's this year. America is in the hundreds of thousands and there is no company that will domestically build 100,000 drones this year. Neros is trying to get close. We'll be over 100,000 run rate by the end of the year. We have to have production capacity in the millions, tens of millions for credible deterrence, but we also want to solve the problems smarter." Ukrainian heavy drones, which perform various tasks (as a relay, for logistics, mining and destruction), have become an integral part of Ukrainian defense. It is extremely difficult to imagine the battlefield through the eyes of a UA military without this class of drones. For years together with my fighters we have been preparing for the fact that the enemy is about to scale this direction and a similar class of drones will appear in their hands. For the first time I met them during the Kursk operation. But what was my surprise that Russians after 5 years of war have not yet tested these drones and launched them into series. But it will be changed. Undoubtedly, the appearance and scaling of certain drones on both sides is due to the conditions in which they work (for example, Russian INs are not even close to Ukrainian ones), but it is difficult to find arguments for abandoning this class of drones. And Russians are not abandoning them. But they see a significantly smaller role in them than in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Russian plans include the creation of UAV battalions (which are significantly smaller in number of personal than Ukrainian ones) as part of regiments and brigades, where each battalion will have 4 crews of heavy drones. And Russian newly formed SBS forces according to plans should receive two companies of heavy bombers. And I only hope that this should not be a surprise for the Armed Forces of Ukraine as it was in the case with the completely symmetrical and non-innovative actions from «Rubicon». UA FPV drone destroyes former UA Vampire drone that became a trophy for Russians and was used by them.

Throughout the night and into the morning, emergency rescue operations have been underway in the Donetsk and Dnipro regions. In Kharkiv, rubble is being cleared after a strike on apartment buildings. 27 people were injured, including three children. The youngest, a girl, is just three years old. Three people have been hospitalized. Unfortunately, there was one fatality in Odesa. My condolences to the family and loved ones. The Russians launched 101 drones against Ukraine, most of them Russian-Iranian “shaheds”. Many regions were affected, and air raid sirens are blaring again across many regions this morning due to attack drones. In total, over the past week, there were around 1,270 drones, 39 missiles, and nearly a thousand guided bombs. We are strongly counting on our partners to fully deliver on what we have agreed. Air defense remains the top priority for protecting lives. We are also actively advancing agreements on investing in our domestic weapons production, including all types of drones. Special focus is on interceptor drones. We are contracting at full capacity. I thank all partners who are helping.

The use of FPV drones is not limited to the Russian-Ukrainian war and is increasingly spreading around the world. As an example, FPV drones of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) attacked Turkish T-155 Fırtına 155 mm self-propelled howitzers. While FPVs are spreading around the world, what worries me is the almost complete lack of attention from Western countries and NATO to this technology. I often come across articles and comments about how at least some high-ranking military commanders in Western countries do not take FPV drones seriously, considering FPVs like toys and not weapons. Which I consider to be completely out of touch with reality. FPVs have changed the battlefield and they are here to stay and will only continue to spread and become more deadly.

Ukraine is trying to match them. - Russia's uncrewed systems force is 80,000 strong. That is bigger than our entire Army. Britain has to catch up and we don't have the luxury of time to do it. We MUST: - Treat drones as ammunition. - Build up always-on drone production here in the UK. - Centralise the data. Use AI to make them smarter. - Stand up an uncrewed systems force now. Not after a review at some point in future… but now. - Cut the rules choking off trial and testing. - Joint ventures between British and Ukrainian industry. They've learnt more in a few years than most countries learn in thirty… - Work with Ukrainian veterans to test how we exercise and operate. Remember: A £4000 drone can take out a £4million tank.

🛬Let's talk about heavy FPV drones again and about the reasons for their relevance on the frontlines Even a small stronghold is often more resilient than it might seem. To destroy such an object, you need to use numerous conventional FPV drones, or even send an attack aircraft to drop a TM-62 mine. But now the chances of destroying a stronghold with a single drone hit have increased significantly thanks to the gradual emergence of heavy drones capable of carrying a much larger payload. One such drone is the Upyr-18. Some Upyr-18s have been modified to drop ammunition. This makes them reusable, but it also significantly reduces the power of the munition carried—it still needs to fly back. A ton of Upyr-18-type drones are incomparably more relevant today than a single BMD-4M or similar aircraft. So the question is about rational redistribution of resources.

Ukraine’s massive use of FPV drones has reportedly slowed the advance of the Russian Army to nearly a standstill. The cost in eliminated soldiers for every kilometer taken is reportedly so high that Putin is on the verge of announcing a forced mobilization.
