Your thyroid might be crying for help. It's the reason you're tired, fat, and depressed. Here's 3 free ways to test for low thyroid function at home: 1. Body temperature If your temperature is low in the morning, you can bet your thyroid is low.

Body temperature is a direct reflection of your metabolism + thyroid specifically. A good chunk of the energy you eat is given off as heat. A temperature drop of even a degree can be reflective of substantial drops in your thyroid health + metabolism.

Dr. Broda Barnes treated people for hypothyroidism with body temperature alone with remarkable success. 1. Put the thermometer under the arm - AS SOON AS YOU WAKE UP - for 10 minutes 2. THEN take your temperature Below 97.8 F (36.6 C) is a red flag for hypothyroidism.

Thyroid hormones make you warm by turning your fat "brown." This comes from having more mitochondria, which produce energy. Thyroid hormones increases the number + heat production of mitochondria. Kind of like how your car engine heats up as it powers you to drive.

2. Pulse Low heart rate can be an excellent indicator of poor thyroid health + metabolism. If it's high + feels like there’s pressure / pounding, it's likely from stress - not thyroid function. If it's smooth, not pounding and high, you're in the clear.

Higher pulse rate = higher metabolism. Low pulse = low vitality, pulse is the direct measure of liveliness in most cases I see. It increases proportionally with metabolism. I aim for 70-90 BPM - in the context of low stress (and non athletes).

Thyroid hormones can increase heart rate by: ◇ Increasing muscular contraction proteins ◇ Governing ion channels / flux ◇ Enhancing mitochondrial function + number We often think of high heart rate as bad, but low heart rate (in non athletes) is really dangerous.

3. Achilles tendon reflex test Hit your achilles tendon (back of the ankle) as your leg hangs + rests. If the reflex is quick, your thyroid is good. If it's sluggish, so if your thyroid and metabolism.

This is mainly because the sciatic nerve / lower body muscle activity is highly dependent on thyroid hormones. Thyroid: ➜ Governs contractions ➜ Stimulates nerve regeneration ➜ Improves nerve responsiveness The nervous system is slower as a whole if thyroid is low.

In terms of fixing these issues, I would check out the thread below, which is my masterclass on optimizing thyroid function.
