"In Eurovision 2025, Greece will be represented by a song entitled “Asteromata”. The lyrics relate to the genocide and displacement of the Pontian Greeks by Turkey. Klavdia, the beautiful singer chosen to represent Greece in the next Eurovision contest, also has Pontian roots. Thus, the song has a deep, personal significance for her. Eurovision Turkey announced on its social media accounts that it is "disturbed by the song." They added that if the song contained any political references, “Turkey would object to the highest level."" The statement said that Turkey's government-funded channel TRT has been contacted, and the song will be examined. The Pontic Greek genocide was part of the broader Greek genocide that Ottoman Turkey committed between 1913 and 1923. Around 300,000 Greeks were murdered in the region of Pontos in the genocide. The survivors were forcibly deported from their ancestral homeland. The Turkish government continues to deny the genocide vehemently and even seeks to prevent the descendants of the survivors from remembering the crime and its victims.
