Both this movie and the follow up Gods and Generals used many troops of Civil War re-enactors to fill out the ranks of costumed extras. Gods and Generals even shows the unit which still wore uniforms styled after the War of Independence.

When Gettysburg was released in Australia in 1993, it was only played in one independent theatre in Melbourne and only for a week. The major cinema chains weren’t interested, the film was considered too long with too limited appeal.

This was Col. Chamberlain and his 20th Maine defending the Little Round Top on the second day. Jeff Daniels who played Chamberlain here was really good in that movie.
