Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. The suspect was placed into custody after a successful taser deployment. While conducting their investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause that Chism was a suspect in an earlier vehicle pursuit of a stolen Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and County Line Road. Chism was found to be in possession of the stolen Hyundai ignition key and the vehicle was recovered nearby. Chism was booked into the Douglas County Jail for investigation of Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Protection Order Violation, and Criminal Impersonation. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We will not allow criminals to victimize Douglas County residents. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community will continue to work tirelessly to protect our residents and their property. I am so proud of my deputies who responded quickly and didn’t give up until this suspect was in custody.”

Douglas County deputies responded immediately and set up two sets of stop sticks along E-470 in an attempt to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred this afternoon at the Sunoco store at 1502 Recker Hwy, near Ave. O SW, in Winter Haven. Nobody was injured due to gunfire. At approximately 2:45 pm on Monday, June 2, 2025, PCSO deputies attempted to arrest a documented gang member who was in possession of a trafficking amount of methamphetamine in front of the Sunoco. The suspect fled in a vehicle, crashed into multiple law enforcement vehicles, and forced a deputy to the ground, injuring him in the process. A deputy fired several shots at the suspect, striking the suspect’s vehicle, but the suspect was not hit. Deputies apprehended the suspect about a mile away after he sideswiped another vehicle after crossing the railroad tracks on North Lake Shipp Drive. Two occupants in the other vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. “The suspect had a blatant disregard for the safety of others. A very dangerous drug dealer is now where he belongs…in the Polk County Jail. Fortunately, our deputy was not seriously injured, and is expected to make a full recovery.” - Grady Judd, Sheriff The suspect has been identified as 39-year old Tonyo Evans of Eagle Lake; he has an extensive criminal history. Per standard protocol, there are three investigations currently underway: an independent investigation by the 10th Judicial Circuit's Officer-Involved Deadly Incident (OIDI) Task Force; an internal investigation by the PCSO Administrative Investigations Unit; and all investigative findings will be forwarded to the 10th Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office for their investigation and review. Tentative charges against Evans include: multiple counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, trafficking in methamphetamine, fleeing to elude, and other charges.

At approximately 2:45 pm on Monday, June 2, 2025, PCSO deputies attempted to arrest a documented gang member who was in possession of a trafficking amount of methamphetamine in front of the Sunoco. The suspect fled in a vehicle, crashed into multiple law enforcement vehicles, and forced a deputy to the ground, injuring him in the process. A deputy fired several shots at the suspect, striking the suspect’s vehicle, but the suspect was not hit. Deputies apprehended the suspect about a mile away after he sideswiped another vehicle after crossing the railroad tracks on North Lake Shipp Drive. Two occupants in the other vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. “The suspect had a blatant disregard for the safety of others. A very dangerous drug dealer is now where he belongs…in the Polk County Jail. Fortunately, our deputy was not seriously injured, and is expected to make a full recovery.” - Grady Judd, Sheriff The suspect has been identified as 39-year old Tonyo Evans of Eagle Lake; he has an extensive criminal history. Per standard protocol, there are three investigations currently underway: an independent investigation by the 10th Judicial Circuit's Officer-Involved Deadly Incident (OIDI) Task Force; an internal investigation by the PCSO Administrative Investigations Unit; and all investigative findings will be forwarded to the 10th Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office for their investigation and review. Tentative charges against Evans include: multiple counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, trafficking in methamphetamine, fleeing to elude, and other charges.

Deputies detailed that the witness jumped in to help and called St. John County Sheriff’s Office, prompting the suspect, identified as Theodore Tundidor, to abandon his kidnapping attempt and flee the scene. Florida Fish and Wildlife Officers later reported spotting Tundidor, 31, driving recklessly near Marineland on A1A, where he was apprehended after an escape attempt.
