We have done a lot to transition the Ukrainian Air Force to a new aviation standard – Western combat aviation. From the beginning of this war, we have been talking with our partners about the need to close the Ukrainian sky from Russian missiles and aircraft. We have held hundreds of meetings and negotiations to strengthen the capabilities of our aviation, air defense, and Defense Forces. We often heard the word "impossible" in response, but we made possible what was our ambition, our defense need, and now – it is a reality in our sky. F-16s in Ukraine. We ensured this. I am proud of all our guys who are skillfully mastering these aircraft and have already started using them for our country. I thank our team for this result. I thank all the partners who are truly helping with the F-16s, and the first countries that accepted our request for aircraft – Denmark, the Netherlands, the United States, – and all our partners, – we value your support. I wish our Air Force and all our warriors to feel the pride of Ukrainians in our combat aviation and to bring Ukraine the combat results that will bring our victory closer – our just peace for Ukraine.

We thank our pilots, air defense personnel, mobile fire groups, anti-aircraft gunners, radio engineering units, engineers, and everyone who does their part to make Ukraine stronger. Thousands of combat sorties, thousands of targets intercepted, and thanks to that, thousands of lives protected. Over the years of the war, our Air Force has grown significantly stronger. We have received modern combat aircraft and effective air defense systems. There are still not enough of these systems to protect our entire sky from Russian missiles, but today Ukraine's air shield is already one of the strongest in Europe. And that is thanks to the professionalism and experience of our warriors, who have proven it time and again by intercepting even the most challenging targets despite shortages of one type of equipment or another. I thank every man and woman who defends our skies and does everything every day to keep Ukrainians safe. And we will always honor the memory of all those who gave their lives defending Ukraine. Eternal memory to the heroes. Glory to our warriors! Glory to Ukraine!

A historic step has been taken now – an agreement with Sweden on Gripen fighter aircraft, and that’s a good choice. We are counting on 150 such aircraft for Ukraine, and the first are expected to arrive next year. Gripens for Ukraine are part of our security guarantees – an Air Force capable of fully protecting our skies. There has never been a combat-aviation deal of this scale for Ukraine before. We have seen a lack of those systems from the U.S., and particularly, we have not really seen the presence of many American companies in the real battlefield.” The U.S. government is now racing to catch up. We continue our work in Washington and are soon expecting a decision on F-16s to increase the number of aircraft available to Ukraine. Yesterday, we secured 5 more Patriot systems and dozens of other air defense systems. Today, a decision on aircraft is also expected. We will also finalize two new security agreements, which include support for sanctions against Russia, our accession to the EU and NATO, the protection of our soldiers and people, and reconstruction efforts. There will be at least ten meetings with world leaders. I am grateful to our entire team for their work. Today, we will also have meetings in the U.S. Congress with both parties and both chambers. We appreciate American support and will discuss how to achieve even more positive results in our cooperation with the United States – ideally, long-range and far-reaching.

No traditionally crewed, fixed-wing aircraft has ever flown autonomously in commercial revenue service. We're targeting New Zealand in 2027. Our goal is for Merlin to be the first company to do that with real autonomy on real planes flying real routes in revenue-generating operations. We've been operating a flight test center in Kerikeri since 2022, logging hundreds of autonomous flights with Merlin Pilot, the same system we're certifying with New Zealand's CAA on a concurrent validation pathway with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). We're now approaching the final phases of that certification journey. Many of the companies attempting to commercialize autonomous flight are using custom-built eVTOL airframes or remote operators. We're doing it the hard way, on fixed-wing aircraft with autonomy in the cockpit, because we believe that's what the future of aviation actually looks like.

Russia has launched another brutal attack on our Kharkiv – on a construction hypermarket, on Saturday, right in the middle of the day. As of now, it is believed that more than 200 people were in the hypermarket. All the emergency services are already on the site and providing assistance, rescuing people, and extinguishing the fire that has completely engulfed the building – 10,000 square meters. There are killed and injured people. If Ukraine had sufficient air defense systems and modern combat aircraft, Russian strikes like this one would have been impossible. And that is why we appeal to all leaders, to all states: we need a significant enhancement of air defense and sufficient capabilities to destroy Russian terrorists. This is a task that must be accomplished and can only be accomplished together with the world. Every day, we call on the world to provide us with air defense and to save our people. Every unmade decision to support us results in the loss of our people.
