The specialty steel story deserves the spotlight. 🇮🇳 🥈 India is the world's second-largest crude steel producer — 168.4 MT in FY26, behind only China 🏗️ Crude steel capacity: 200 MT in 2024-25 → 220 MT in 2025-26, targeting 300 MT by 2030-31 The gap this closes: India was producing over 100 MT of steel a year but importing high-grade specialty varieties. The PLI scheme was built for exactly that gap. 📜 60 companies, 85 projects across three rounds 💰 ₹23,022 crore of investment already realised, with commitments of ₹43,874 crore+ ⚙️ 24 million tonnes of specialty steel capacity created so far 🎯 Specialty steel output targeted at 42 MT by end of 2026-27 Where it goes: defence, mobility, renewable energy and space applications — the grades that used to arrive on a ship.
