Officer crashed police cruiser while under the influence. His supervisor shows how cops try to make special accommodations for each other. Officer Justin Augustine was working a shift for the Piqua Police Department in Ohio when he called his supervisor to a parking lot off East Ash Street. When the supervisor arrived, he found Augustine’s police cruiser with heavy front-end damage. Augustine initially claimed he had hit a flat-bed semi-truck carrying concrete barriers while pulling into the parking lot. The chief of police came in at the end and ordered Augustine to take the test which he did refuse. A few days later Augustine did resign. In court he took a plea deal where he avoided prison time. A judge sentenced him to a $1,500 total fines and court costs. 180 days in jail, but suspended 177 days and accepted the 3 days he was locked up for the rest on the condition that he complete a weekend education program and continue mental health and substance abuse counseling. My wife, Aditi Malhotra Chaturvedi, is a Judge Most people who know us, know how madly proud I am of her. But all of that pride comes at a cost .. I also, unfortunately, need reminders to “understand” the meaning of why she does what she does, while bearing all that she has to in that process So kudos to the makers of #MaamlaLegalHai on Netflix, a satirical show that depicts in each of the 8 episodes courtroom highlights beyond the courtroom that’re lifted straight up from real incidents, bound by a central narrative around some super endearing characters in VD Tyagi, Ananya Shroff, Sujata, Munshi Ji, PP Saab, & others. It’s a kickass show that anyone and everyone will love, for its humour and emotion, & yet, it shows so much of the “judiciary”, so much of how one of the most important pillars of our country operates, with incredible detail Sharing two clips from the last episode, which made Aditi’s eyes tad bit wet, and my chest swell each bit of those 56 inches. I realise though that I can do better than just feeling this pride. It isn’t easy in first place. We see each other not more than 5-6 days in a month. We are not able to be with each other on days good and bad, when ‘that magical hug’ would have meant everything. We give up a lot. Rather, she gives up a lot. Driven by some unknown force, a deep-rooted emotion to do “justice” I live in a world where everything is simplified, productised, incentivised, and even then “motivations” aren’t easy to build. And on the other hand, is this world. Somewhere in a remote corner with remote amenities. With no line of sight on pay, incentives, promotions etc. With no team engagement, no offsites, no ESOPs, no awards. Yet, mad work ethic. Yet, passion to play every day, every hour, with your everything. Yet, a commitment to sacrifice your prime to serve others. I keep wondering what she’s made up of .. There is a life she leads inside the courtroom. Which I have had a chance to “witness” a few times. Just about always manages to send chills down my spines. And there is a life that she leads outside it. Half a day / long train ride away. Where she works incredibly hard again to make everyone ‘feel her presence’ in fullness To be able to do “justice” in your own life, with your own people, while putting yourself out there, is an unbelievable feat that goes unnoticed and uncelebrated .. Every Monday morning when she heads back, we all (including Buzo) remain a bit numb for a few hours … and then life catches up. Waiting for the next opportunity to see each other, hold each other, laugh with each other, cry with each other, just “be” with each other. Which also always makes us feel very ‘grateful’ for whatever time we get. My job doesn’t help. But I try. She tries harder. We make it work. Having been in love since forever helps .. Few weeks back, when Aditi’s dad was in the ICU, she rushed back late in the night only to head back right next morning on that 6 am train. I asked her on the platform that morning if it was necessary to go, and she said a hundred people, across age groups, were waiting for “justice”, and even a single day missed means these ‘files’ which translates to “human lives” get pushed by 5-6 months, such is the sheer volume of litigation in our country’s courts Like the series pretty well shows, a great number of times, what happens inside the court affects. Even as I write in the moment, I am rubbing my temples, shaking my head in disbelief, as I recall the absolute horrid state of criminal and civil suits I’ve seen play out. She’s become thicker with time, you don’t have a choice, but a lot of these cases, when I narrate them in my founder/VC/tech brethren, almost a cent percent are shell-shocked and don’t relate to this India But here we are :) As obsessed as I am with what I do for a living, I realise in moments like these that part of my diktat in this life is to help Aditi win, and do better, for the millions that are invisible to the India that I serve ..

It’s a kickass show that anyone and everyone will love, for its humour and emotion, & yet, it shows so much of the “judiciary”, so much of how one of the most important pillars of our country operates, with incredible detail Sharing two clips from the last episode, which made Aditi’s eyes tad bit wet, and my chest swell each bit of those 56 inches. I realise though that I can do better than just feeling this pride. It isn’t easy in first place. We see each other not more than 5-6 days in a month. We are not able to be with each other on days good and bad, when ‘that magical hug’ would have meant everything. We give up a lot. Rather, she gives up a lot. Driven by some unknown force, a deep-rooted emotion to do “justice” I live in a world where everything is simplified, productised, incentivised, and even then “motivations” aren’t easy to build. And on the other hand, is this world. Somewhere in a remote corner with remote amenities. With no line of sight on pay, incentives, promotions etc. With no team engagement, no offsites, no ESOPs, no awards. Yet, mad work ethic. Yet, passion to play every day, every hour, with your everything. Yet, a commitment to sacrifice your prime to serve others. I keep wondering what she’s made up of .. There is a life she leads inside the courtroom. Which I have had a chance to “witness” a few times. Just about always manages to send chills down my spines. And there is a life that she leads outside it. Half a day / long train ride away. Where she works incredibly hard again to make everyone ‘feel her presence’ in fullness To be able to do “justice” in your own life, with your own people, while putting yourself out there, is an unbelievable feat that goes unnoticed and uncelebrated .. Every Monday morning when she heads back, we all (including Buzo) remain a bit numb for a few hours … and then life catches up. Waiting for the next opportunity to see each other, hold each other, laugh with each other, cry with each other, just “be” with each other. Which also always makes us feel very ‘grateful’ for whatever time we get. My job doesn’t help. But I try. She tries harder. We make it work. Having been in love since forever helps .. Few weeks back, when Aditi’s dad was in the ICU, she rushed back late in the night only to head back right next morning on that 6 am train. I asked her on the platform that morning if it was necessary to go, and she said a hundred people, across age groups, were waiting for “justice”, and even a single day missed means these ‘files’ which translates to “human lives” get pushed by 5-6 months, such is the sheer volume of litigation in our country’s courts Like the series pretty well shows, a great number of times, what happens inside the court affects. Even as I write in the moment, I am rubbing my temples, shaking my head in disbelief, as I recall the absolute horrid state of criminal and civil suits I’ve seen play out. She’s become thicker with time, you don’t have a choice, but a lot of these cases, when I narrate them in my founder/VC/tech brethren, almost a cent percent are shell-shocked and don’t relate to this India But here we are :) As obsessed as I am with what I do for a living, I realise in moments like these that part of my diktat in this life is to help Aditi win, and do better, for the millions that are invisible to the India that I serve ..

I got pretty emotional while editing this if I’m being honest. Touring is never an easy grind as it is, but leaving your 2 year old girl for an entire month during the most formative time of her life is a sacrifice that doesn’t go unnoticed. I could tell how much he missed his girls and how it was eating away at him, but it really went to show me how truly dedicated he is to his career and how much he believes in the future of Jack & Jack. Thank you to you guys for making it all worthwile and coming to the shows and bringing unbelievable energy night in and night out. As independent artists with no on the road security and traveling through 11 different countries over 28 days, all combined with how expensive tour life overseas can be at our current venue sizes, bringing the girls with felt like an impossible task. But him, Geneva, and Hayvie took it all on the chin purely out of belief in our future. Even typing this out now motivates me to do things bigger and better year after year so we can ensure he never has to leave his girls behind again… Gilinsky is truly the best dad I know and I’m proud of these 3 for managing to get through this past month without each other ❤️ -J

One criticism I always see towards games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI recently is the topic of small details. "Why does a game need so many details, it doesn't make the experience any better and takes longer to develop" While I do agree with the fact that Rockstar Games development schedules in between each release keep getting longer, the fact is that when you aim for such a high level of realism in a video-game, its not about graphics anymore, its about immersion. I'm sure that if you played RDR2, you know that your horse sweating or its balls shrinking in the cold don't add much to the gameplay itself, but it makes the game feel like its real. This is precisely what sets apart Rockstar Games from other game studios, the level of immersion you get in those games is unbeaten. RDR2, a game designed for the PS4 console has a level of fluidity and immersion that I have yet to see in a video-game from any other game studio, each game mechanic seems to work flawlessly that it feels like a living and breathing open world game. Hell, sometimes you feel bad for shooting an NPC which never happened to me in a video-game before. When you're playing it, hours can go by and you don't even. In other open-world games, sometimes you can notice limitations, for example the same NPCs appearing in one object or the same scripted conversations. RDR2 manages to make that gap of a video-game and reality feel thinner, not get rid of it entirely of course. Making such a massive game filled with tons of details means that it can be can be played for multiple years after its release and not feel outdated. Its not all about details of course, when a game takes so long to develop, the stakes get higher each time and Rockstar Games has to make sure that they deliver on the story that is being told too, hence the reason why their games have always been historically good in terms of writing. Now to address the elephant int he room, the main issue is that as the complexity increases for each new release and optimizing all of these systems to work in tandem, the development time increases and we get longer periods of waiting. Is all of this worth it? In my opinion, yes. Its Rockstar Games after all, they have the budget necessary and the talent to achieve this kind of feat. Not only does it raise the bar for what is possible to do in a video-game, but it also is highly rewarding when you play the game for the first time and its unlike anything you've seen these past couple of years. And I know that because I have worked on thousands of them in my last job as a plumber." "And so if we want to cut energy bills for good, we really do need a properly funded and a properly regulated national home insulation scheme, and to go even bigger on renewable energy. And that is where investment should be going, not into nuclear power." "And the King's Speech includes some steps in the right direction, but it is nothing like the transformative, progressive programme that this moment demands. It doesn't rise to the climate and nature crisis that is happening now, and that's a crisis that can't be separated from the inequality and cost-of-living crises that are happening too, because it is always the poorest people that suffer the most here in our country and around the world." "And while certain people will claim that climate action is pushing up bills, we know that that isn't true, and we know that some of the people saying that are being bankrolled by the very companies causing climate destruction and ripping off our constituents." "And the Representation of the People Bill must go further on cleaning up politics because a greener, more affordable, more secure future is possible if you stand up to those vested interests and if we're prepared to admit that obscene wealth is damaging our country." "And people out there are so angry at the gap between the super, super rich and all the rest of us getting even bigger, and they want something equally big done about it. They don't want any child to go hungry, and they know that a free hot school meal for every child up to the age of 16 is possible if extreme wealth is taxed fairly." "They want public transport to be more affordable, and they know that we could start by giving free bus passes to all the under-22s, again, paid for by our tax system being made fairer." "They want everyone to have a roof over their head, to get a doctor's or a dentist appointment without struggle, and for the NHS to be run for the public good, not to line shareholders' pockets. And they know that change is possible if only this government, a Labour government, would tax extreme wealth fairly." "Our Green amendment includes new powers to control rents. Greens welcomed the changes in the Renters Reform Act and now plans for more social housing. But far too many people are still struggling to pay their rent and make ends meet. So alongside action to bring down energy and water bills, it is time to get a grip on the cost of renting too." "And now I was elected to give a voice to a politics that truly represents everyone. This is the first King's Speech I've been in Parliament to hear, and honestly, what I'm hearing isn't gonna give everyone the meaningful change that we and they all know is possible." "So Greens will have no hesitation to use our individual and collective voices over the coming months to welcome progress when it's made, but crucially, to demand the change that people were promised and the change that people deserve to have."
