Deputy Holmes and Deputy Hackler were on patrol around 11:00 p.m. on February 5 when they stopped a motorist for driving without license plates. Daniel Elias told deputies he didn't know how to install his plates due to a learning disability. He had his license plates with him, as well as proper insurance and registration. Rather than give him a ticket, the deputies helped him put his license plates on. He was so appreciative and encouraged us to share the video. The incident started when a man and a woman called 911, claiming someone was harassing them. While on the phone with a dispatcher, the caller was shot by the suspect, Aaron Rodriguez. On Monday afternoon around 3:40 p.m., a 21-year-old off-duty deputy was involved in a traffic collision on San Francisquito Canyon Road in Santa Clarita. He was transported to Henry Mayo Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Our deputy joined the Department on May 2, 2024, and had recently completed the academy. He was proudly serving at the North County Correctional Facility, dedicating himself to protecting and helping others. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our own, who was taken from us far too soon,” said Sheriff Robert G. Luna. “Our Deputy dedicated his life to the service and safety of others, both in and out of uniform. His commitment to public safety was not just a job—it was who he was. La Porte County Sheriff's Deputy Jon Samuelson pulled over to offer assistance to Sharod Grafton Jr., who was stopped on the side of the road. Grafton requested to be transported to Franciscan Hospital in Michigan City. While at the hospital, Samuelson learned that Grafton may have been involved in an earlier criminal incident, and after an altercation, Grafton pulled out a firearm and shot Samuelson 3 times. Grafton then fled the hospital and into a wooded area nearby before deputies arrested him. Samuelson was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital and remains in critical condition.

After they didn't return home for an hour, his grandpa frantically called the police to report them missing. On the afternoon of Thursday, December 29, 2022, shortly before 2:00 p.m., Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Isaiah Cordero initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 3900 block of Golden West Avenue in Jurupa Valley. As Deputy Cordero approached the vehicle, the driver, William Shae McKay, produced a handgun and fatally shot him. McKay then fled the scene. A witness called 911, and nearby residents attempted to assist Deputy Cordero until law enforcement and paramedics arrived. A massive manhunt involving Riverside and San Bernardino County agencies followed. McKay was located in San Bernardino County, sparking a vehicle pursuit that returned to Riverside County. Spike strips were successfully deployed on the 60 Freeway, but the vehicle continued. It eventually became disabled on the 15 Freeway in Norco after a single-vehicle collision. McKay fired at deputies, who returned fire and killed him. McKay had an extensive violent criminal history, including kidnapping, multiple assaults with deadly weapons, and involvement in the 2021 stabbing of a CHP K9. He was free on bail pending sentencing after San Bernardino County Superior Court Judge Cara D. Hutson convicted him of kidnapping and assault (his third strike). Hutson released him on bail, and again after he failed to appear for his original sentencing date. The family of Deputy Cordero and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco called for Judge Hutson to resign. She refused and remains a judge of the Superior Court of San Bernardino County. Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect vehicle spun out of control and rolled backwards into a metal railing, where it was pinned in place by deputies. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. The suspect was placed into custody after a successful taser deployment. While conducting their investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause that Chism was a suspect in an earlier vehicle pursuit of a stolen Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and County Line Road. Chism was found to be in possession of the stolen Hyundai ignition key and the vehicle was recovered nearby. Chism was booked into the Douglas County Jail for investigation of Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Protection Order Violation, and Criminal Impersonation. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We will not allow criminals to victimize Douglas County residents. Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect vehicle spun out of control and rolled backwards into a metal railing, where it was pinned in place by deputies. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. The suspect was placed into custody after a successful taser deployment. While conducting their investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause that Chism was a suspect in an earlier vehicle pursuit of a stolen Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and County Line Road. Chism was found to be in possession of the stolen Hyundai ignition key and the vehicle was recovered nearby. Chism was booked into the Douglas County Jail for investigation of Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Protection Order Violation, and Criminal Impersonation. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We will not allow criminals to victimize Douglas County residents. Timothy Kukla, 33, had his apartment raided in Euclid, Ohio, as he was wanted for multiple counts of child r*pe.
